Problem connecting my domain and my wordpress blog
-
Hello all,
I recently started my wordpress blog http://aliisaacstoryteller.wordpress.com, and I intended to map it to my own website domain http://www.aliisaacstoryteller.com. So i followed the instructions to add a CNAME (blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com) on my host, and changed the DNS server to the wordpress ones, as instructed, and paid the $13. All seemed to work well, however, I only saw my old website, and my new blog had ‘dissappeared’. thinking I had done wrong, I changed the primary domain back to wordpress, and now my new blog comes up when i type http://www.aliisaacstoryteller.com into a search engine, but my website has ‘dissappeared’. All I want is for my blog to show up as a page on my website. Can someone please advise? BTW, I am technologically challenged! Thank you for any help offered!

I have flagged this for the staff to help
Just a double check:
You want to make your blog here at WordPress.COM look something like blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com – a sub-domain of your existing web site and not replace your existing web site (aliisaacstoryteller.com) with your aliisaacstoryteller.wordpress.com blog? Correct?
It looks like you have already followed these instructions – all I can suggest is for you to review them while waiting for the staff to help

Hi auxclass,
Thanks for responding so quickly. Appreciate it. Yes, you are correct, I would like my wordpress blog to look like blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com, a sub-domain of my existing website http://www.aliisaacstoryteller.com and NOT replace it.
I am not knowledgeable in these matters, but am assuming that then both sites will be ‘attached ‘ together, ie blog.aliisaacstoryteller will appear on my existing website without losing the existing website?
Thanks so much for flagging to the staff, and I will surely follow your recommendation to review whilst awaiting a response.

Currently you have mapped aliisaacstoryteller.com to your WordPress.com blog.
If you want I can change the domain mapping upgrade to blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com . After that you should revert your nameserver settings so it points to your own hosting. And add a CNAME record so the ‘blog’ sub-domain points to your WordPress.com blog.
You can contact your domain registrar’s (Easyspace) support to help you set the records.

Hi kardotim,
It would be great if you could do that, thank you very much.
I already added a CNAME for the blog subdomain, but I will check that I have done this correctly.
With regard to name server settings, please can I just clarify; I thought I had to insert the three wordpress ones, and delete my own host settings. Pleae confirm, am I to revert back to the original host DNS settings?
Will all this then mean that my new blog.aliisaacstoryteller blog will appear as a page on my original http://www.aliisaacstoryteller.com website?
Thank you for your help.

If you revert the nameserver settings, the root domain (aliisaacstoryteller.com) will point to your self-hosted site at Easyspace. If you add a CNAME record for blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com it will redirect to your WordPress.com blog.
I replaced your current domain mapping with blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com. As you can see, it now redirects to your WordPress.com blog.

Hi Kardotim
Thank you for all you have done. However, I think I have made a mistake, and that my new wordpress blog SHOULD replace my old website. So I want my wordpress blog to be hosted on my old website as http://www.aliisaacstoryteller.com INSTEAD of blog.aliisaacstoryteller.com. What should I do now, and do I need to pay another $13 fee?
I sincerely apologise for the confusion.

I see. I’ve just changed your domain mapping back to aliisaacstoryteller.com. Now you can change the nameservers and set it as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMAfter that you can select the domain as primary at https://aliisaacstoryteller.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
