problem converting wordpress.com to export it in xml! help!?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to export a section of my blog, well, a category, actually.

But when I go to tools>export and then I click convert….a page opens up with this message in red at the top

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 88 at column 53: Namespace prefix atom on link is not defined
error on line 89 at column 21: Namespace prefix atom on link is not defined
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

I am unable to complete the export!

HELP!?!? I don’t know what this means or what to do to get it to work!

    THANK YOU! :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The browser should be downloading a file, not opening a page. Would you please try a different browser, like Chrome or Firefox?

    http://www.google.com/chrome

    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

    Hey macmanx. Thanks.

    Yeah, i misworded.

It IS a downloaded file that I am opening. It is when I open the file that the dreaded error message appears on the top of the file page.

    I use google chrome.

    ???

  • You shouldn’t be opening the file, just importing it via Tools -> Import.

The file is just a stream of data, and pretty much only our importer is designed to understand it.

    argh!

I went to my newly opened blog in wordpress.

I went to tools… import… then clicked on wordpress.

I chose the file from my computer that I had downloaded (and NOT opened) and clicked, “upload”.

This is the message given to me:
    “Invalid file
Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.”

Why oh why? I used wordpress, tools, export- filtered for the category I wanted and pressed “ok”. Then it downloaded on my computer, and i saved it to my computer.

Then did the above mentioned process with the new wordpress.com blog.

???? Why is it invalid? What can I do to GET IT to be VALID??

    THANK YOOUUUUUU :)

  • Hm, ok that’s annoying. :(

Can you please upload a screenshot of the error at Media -> Add New in your WordPress.com blog’s Dashboard, so we can get a better idea of the nature of the error?

I’m getting the same error. And I believe it’s because the ‘atom’ namespace has not been defined.
Please find below an excerpt from my exported file:

    <rss version="2.0"
    xmlns:excerpt="http://wordpress.org/export/1.0/excerpt/"
    xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"

    xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"
