Problem cropping and scaling an image at the same time
-
Just a heads up. I was trying to do a silly photo post on my personal blog. I took the photo on my phone, moved it to my computer and uploaded it to the media library (using the drag and drop process if I remember correctly). That part all went fine.
The photo was really too big, so I tried to be lazy and crop the photo and then scale the photo using WordPress tools. That seems to have broken the link to the image. I’ve linked the problem child below.

You’ll see it looks broken when you click on it, but if you click “edit” the image itself is still there.
I went ahead and cropped and scaled my image in Gimp and re-uploaded it, so there is nothing urgent about this on my end, just thought you’d want to know that those tools seem to be a little persnickety.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey Maureen,
Thanks for passing this along! Currently, when I try to view the individual file, I’m experiencing a 404:
Oddly, the image is still appearing in your Media Library as a broken image:

Did you delete it by chance?
I just tried to reproduce this on my side by cropping and then resizing an image, but it seemed to work correctly for me. When I tried to resize the image without first saving the cropping, I was prompted with an error message that said “You have unsaved changes”. If I clicked “Ok” on that to proceed with the resizing, the cropping changes were just discarded.
Can you try this one more time and see if you still get an error?

So I tried this again and I was able to get it to work–but not consistently.
I think it was an order of operations problem. I started the post, clicked “add media” uploaded the raw photo. Then I clicked “edit image” under “attachment details.”
This order of operations let me open the edit window, make changes, and click save, but more often than not the changes didn’t take. In this case the crop seemed to work, but flipping the image and scaling it seemed to mostly fail.
I tested in Chrome version 37.0.2062.124.
I wonder if the expected process is that a user will upload the photo using “add new” in the media library, do all the editing from there, and then add the edited photo to the post. If so, that process works great.
Are you able to successfully edit photos that you upload directly through the “add media” button in a post?

Thanks for passing this along @lizthefair! I was able to reproduce it, but then oddly enough, when I tried again, it worked fine. I’ll keep digging here, and keep you posted!

I just experienced this again, but I’m unable to reproduce consistently. Haven’t forgotten though! :)

I was able to reproduce this consistently and have reported it to the developers! I’ll update this thread when it’s resolved.
