Problem displaying "posts" page using front page template in Edin

    Hey,

I’ve had several users in the forums trying to use the Edin theme, but they run into trouble when they go to set up the pages to be featured on the front page. Everything works great when one chooses a regular page, but choosing to feature the posts page (which lots of people want to do) doesn’t work.

The problem is when the posts page is chosen for one of the three “featured” areas, rather than displaying a featured image and a short blurb, it displays the featured image and short blurb from the 5 latest posts–in a vertical line down the front page–which looks silly.

I set up my (very ugly) test blog so you can see what I mean here: http://mectestblog.wordpress.com/

Is the posts page just not meant to be one of the featured pages, or is this something the developers might be willing to tweak?

  • Hi Liz, thanks for setting up your demo site so I can more easily see what you mean – it was very helpful.

When you create a placeholder page for posts to display them somewhere other than your homepage – by selecting it as the posts page under Settings > Reading, any content you add in the post editor for that page is not displayed on the site.

In Edin, if you select your posts placeholder page as the page to be displayed on the homepage featured area, what shows up is the same content that’s displayed elsewhere in the theme for this page – i.e. the site’s latest posts.

I’ll update the theme documentation to try to make this behaviour clearer.

Thanks @kathrynwp. I thought that might be the case. Updating the documentation should help a lot.

  • Great. By the way, I see now that your name is actually Maureen, not Liz – I’ll try to get that right next time. :-)

No worries. I’ve been using this name on the interwebz for a long time so I’m attached to it–but it is confusing. I answer to both :)
