Problem editing footer widgets

  I recently changed the theme on my blog (herestous.wordpress.com) and wanted to delete one of the widgets given by default in the footer. When I went to the “widgets” page on my dashboard, there were extra spaces for the widgets in the footer, but the widgets that were already there didn’t display so I could delete them. Any ideas why this is, and how I can edit the footer widgets on my blog?
