Problem Editing Links
-
when setting up my latest post, it was impossible to continue after editing a link (url). I had over 10 links and after each change, the program instead of returning me to the place where the link was located, sent me to the TOP of the document. Very frustrating!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Could you provide the link to the post and the specific links that you are having problems with?
Thanks.
-
Hi alpineanomalous,
Is this the post you’re referring to? All the links seem to open correctly for me.
Can you walk me through how you’re configuring the links and if the issue is occurring when the post is published, or just in Preview mode?
In addition, it may be worth reviewing the process for including links in a post here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
Looking forward to seeing if we can help you out here!

gentlemen,
I edited all the links already and posted the blog yesterday (title: post-mortem) so there’s nothing wrong with the operation of editing links, it’s just the <return> to the original document that’s off: you’re sent to the top of the page (and have to manually find where you left off; and this over and over again depending on the number of links to edit!).
step by step : I paste in the url. I highlight the url and press the ‘edit link’ button. There, I validate the link and click on the option “open link in new window”. When I save, instead of showing me the validated link on my document, I’m returned to home (top) where I have to start again. ;(

Thanks for this detailed account of what’s happening! It’s definitely strange behavior. To clarify, when you click Save and it returns you to the top, the link you edited is not updated, right?
What happens when you try to update the links using the HTML text editor? You can switch from the visual editor to the HTML editor and insert a link in the following way:
Fingers crossed you can save your links this way!
-
Oh, the forum formatted my HTML! Apologies. Try this:
<a href="https://www.YOUR LINK HERE" target="_blank">YOUR TEXT HERE</a> -

@alpineanomalous, are you facing a problem similar to the one being discussed here? → https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-editor?replies=4#post-2995656

I haven’t been able to recreate the issue, unfortunately! Here are a few things I recommend that you try:
It may be an issue with your browser, and you can follow the troubleshooting tips outlined here to update your browser, clear your cache and cookies, and check your JavaScript and third-party cookies are enabled.
If the problem still occurs, let us know what device and browser you are using, and add the ‘modlook’ tag to your thread to get help from a WordPress Happiness Engineer.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help you out here, but I will be following along to see how the issue is resolved!
-
This problem only occurred with the latest release of WordPress. I’ve been editing links for over a year and using the same browser (Firefox).
-
Ok, thanks for following up. I’ve tagged this thread for the attention of a Happiness Engineer.
Fingers crossed we can solve this for you!

alpineanomalous –
Please confirm your site address. I don’t see it linked here in the thread. Thank you :)

The blog I need help with is alpineanomalous.wordpress.com.
the latest post : post-mortem

Please take a look at supportdetails.com and let me know which version of Firefox this is happening in. Which version of Windows are you running? I will try to replicate the issue with these details on my side.
donalirl shared some information for troubleshooting your browser as well. Did you have any luck with those steps?
-
The browser version of Firefox is 54.0
Windows operating system : 7I’ll make a test run with Chrome and see if the same thing happens. Will let you know.
-
Just tested using the Chrome browser and the problem is the same.
It’s the program that has a bug. The minute I highlight the link, the background automatically shows the top of page. Even if I cancel the insert/edit link, I’m sent to the top of the page. Something is wrong.

Good morning –
I have replicated the issue on your post. I am going to do a bit more testing.
For now, you can work from the classic, wp-admin editor and this behavior should not happen.
To get to this editor you’ll use https://alpineanomalous.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ Then, on the left, click on Posts.
-
This issue has been reported to our developers. For now, my best advice is to work from the wp-admin dashboard to avoid this behavior.
