problem exporting blog
-
I’m trying to export my blog to a self-hosted site. I’ve tried this a few times and it only partially exports the content. The first few times repeated the process, it added a little more content, but now that too has stopped. I’m using the built in wordpress export tool? Is there anything else I can try or a third party app that might help? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
From what site are you exporting? I don’t see any recent exports on http://cecilhistory.wordpress.com/, and that site also appears to be empty.
And w hat do you mean it only does a partial export? The only way the export can be partial is if you specifically select the option to export only a specific type of content for a specific date range when exporting it here.
Do you perhaps instead mean not all the content is importing on the self-hosted site? If so, that is more likely a problem with that site, than with the export file. It could be that you’re hitting memory limits at your hosting provider which causes the import to time out before it completes.
In that case the best place to ask for help troubleshooting and fixing this is the self-hosted WordPress forums instead:

Hi there, are you going through My Sites > Settings > Export or are you working out of the WP Admin dashboard under Tools > Export?
You might want to try from the Admin dashboard if you are now going through My Sites.
Also, I see 201 comments that have not been approved and about 10 comments marked as spam. I would deal with those before trying the next export. It’s always best to be get things as clean as possible before the export.
The export may possibly be broken up into multiple segments, so you might receive more than one emails on that.

I cleared all of the backfiles (spam, unapproved, etc.) on the comments so that’s now all clean.
I had been going to the export via the tools in the blog, but I tried the other suggestion about going through the wordpress administrators dashboard. It still hasn’t resolved the problem.

I made an export of your site and imported it to a WordPress.com site, and everything imported correctly – 756 posts, 5 pages, and 1148 comments. So the export file is fine. By the way, exporting your site gave me a zipped folder with two export files, at 4.1 and 3.3 MB respectively.
So the problem here is likely with the importer on your self-hosted site instead. Have you checked with your hosting provider that you’re not hitting your server’s memory limits? If it’s not that, please try asking in the self-hosted forums for advice on what else the problem could be.

I had checked with the host site (start logic) and they said everything was fine on their end. When I unzip is get two files one is 3,993 KB and the other is 3,034 KB. That seems to be a little different from what you are getting.
I ask the wordpress export tool to import all.
Is there anyway you could transfer your files to me? Or is there another tool I could use (third -party or something to export)?
Will follow up with Start Logic.
thanks -
The two files I have downloaded repeatedly seem to be a different size. Here’s what they say two files one is 3,993 KB and the other is 3,034 KB. That seems to be a little different from what you are getting. Is there someway you could forward those to me so I could use them or place them at a ftp site or something?

It sounds like the files you have are just fine since they agree with the sizes @kokkeih got on his export, so they should contain all of your content.
I would suggest searching and posting at https://wordpress.org/support/ to see if you can find, or can get any ideas on what might be happening or what you can change to fix it.
