problem for readers to leave a comment on my blog posts
-
Readers are unable to post comments to my posts on my blog. There is a problem for commentators to fill in their email address and name. Their comments don’t get published / registered. Looks like a bug. What can be done?
-
What is the URL of the site where you are having this comment issue? We’ll be happy to take a look and see if we can help.
-
Thanks. The site is hosted here — can you let us know what happens when someone tries to comment?
Have you logged out and tried to add a test comment through another address?
-
Thanks for your respones!
When one wants to leave a comment to a post, there is a problem when filling in the form that asks for the his email and name.
I have logged out and tried, and invariably this problem persists. Also other persons have let me know of the same problem when trying to leave a comment.

No, no error message appears.
The text reads: “Leave a comment”. Below that text is a box where one can type in the comment. Below that box a text reads: “Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:”, and to the left of that text are icons of WP, Twitter and FB.
Below that text another box with gray text reading: “Email (required), and to the right of that reads “Name (required)”. I am able to enter email address, but I can’t type in my name, I type but it doesn’t show in that box.
Below that box, to the right is a button that reads “Post Comment”. I press that button, and in the box for entering the email and name, the following red text appears: “Please enter your email address here”. As mentioned, I had succeeded in entering my email address, but not my name.Is it possible for me to send you screenshots? That would make this much easier!

What browser are you using? Does it happen if you try a different browser? Are you using any browser extensions? Can you try disabling them and seeing if that changes things?
We also have screenshot instructions here: https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/
-
I use Chrome. Tried on MS Explorer and had same problem.
I have quite a few extensions running on my browsers, and will be difficult to disable them all.But the point is that the readers of my blog, whom I cannot ask to use this or the other browser, let alone ask them to disable extensions, have this problem and have let me know via mail or other means that they cannot leave contacts or interact with my blog!
I know how to make a screenshot, but don’t know how I can share it with you at support. This interface doesn’t give this option.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
As for sharing a screenshot, you can use https://snipboard.io/ for that.
-
Thank you for your response.
Please read what I wrote. I need this to work, not for me, but for the many people who read my blog. I cannot instruct them to update browsers, clear their cache nor disable add-ons.
Also, again take note that I wrote that I DO know very well how to make a screenshot! What I asked is how I can POST the file in this forum for the purpose of solving the problem in reference.
Are we going to be able to fix the bug that prevents my followers and readers to give me feedback on my blog?
-
Is this what you’re referring to?
(To add a screenshot here, you can upload it to a place like https://snipboard.io/ and share a link in your reply).
If so, this indeed is a bug; however, the theme you’re using has been retired, so there wouldn’t be any update to fix this, I’m afraid.
Have a look at the other free themes we offer: -
Yes! Bull’s eye! That’s exactly the problem.
So I need to change theme. Is it possible to migrate my entire blog, including past posts, to the new theme? How do I do this?
-
Oh, changing the theme will not affect your content; it will just change the design. Some newer themes may change your homepage to a demo one, but if you prefer to keep your current settings, you will go to My Site>Design>Customize>Homepage Settings and set the homepage back to what it was.
You can also try many themes without activating them by clicking on the three dots next to the theme’s name and choosing the option Try&Customize.
This will allow you to see how the theme would look like with your content and how you could customize it.

Thank you Fresatomica for your great feedback!
I chose another theme, and with it customized my site, after which I saved the changes. After a while, I opened my site and tried to post a comment, but alas, the exact same problem appeared…
-
Thanks for hanging in there as we try and sort this out. Is the home page not saving as you’ve indicated?
-
Sorry, don’t understand your question.
Please see Fesatomica’s reply from Nov 26, 2020 3:54 pm (Reply #3598752). After changing the Theme, and saving my blog with the new Theme, the same problem is there.
-
Hi there,
Your site is still on the retired Modern Business theme that you activated a year ago. So it looks like the theme switch never went through.
After trying out and customizing the theme, did you click the Activate and Save button in the Customizer?
If you did, and that didn’t still, please try just directly activating the theme at My Site ->Design ->Themes, and then customizing it after you’ve activated it.
