Problem importing from Typepad

  I’m new to WordPress and have just switched over after using first Blogger and then Typepad. My Blogger content imported quickly and without a problem. But when I tried to import my blog content from Typepad it didn’t work. I first received an email telling me that the import was finished, but I couldn’t see the posts in my dashboard. Then I received another email telling me that the import didn’t work. Then when I went to look at the import tool and try again, I saw this message:

  “Processing…
  We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

  I tried the import on 30 December and I’ve been seeing this message ever since. What can I do to clear it and to successfully import my Typepad material? It’s not a huge or media-heavy file, less than the Blogger one I already imported.

  I flagged this for staff assistance. Sometimes the imports run into odd problems, and they can generally sort them out.

  Hi there!

  I deleted the old job record for TypePad so that you could try that import again. I suggest you start with a freshly downloaded export file from TypePad and give it another try.

  If it’s unsuccessful again, I’ll be more than happy to take a closer look for you!

  I have had the same problem importing from Typepad. Has this issue been resolved? Can you give me advice how to move a blog from Typepad to WordPress?

  Hi moaadmin,

  I don’t see a current job on your dashboard for a Typepad import. Have you tried running through these steps first?

  I have had issues and tried those steps twice. I even got an email saying it was successful. I’ve opened the file I exported from Typepad and it looks right. I’m not sure why it’s not working.

  I noticed the the txt files had a line of unnecessary HTML at the top and bottom of the file. When I tried deleting that and importing the file, I was successful (on a test blog). I recommend you open the .txt file in a text editor (plain text) and delete the HTML at the very top and the very bottom of the file (just a few tags in total), and re-save as a .txt file, and then re-initiate the import.
