Problem importing XML file from another WordPress blog

  Hi,

  While trying to import exported XML file from self-hosted wordpress.org blog into wordpress.com, I get the following errors:

  Problem processing import file
  Make sure you are using a valid WordPress export file in XML or ZIP format. Still need help?

  or:

  We had trouble reading the import file. Please make sure it’s valid XML.
  Try again or get help.

  I checked the files and they look normal and complete. What may be the problem then? File size? I tried both zipping (17mb->6mb) and and uploading xml files in chunks (posts, pages and media separately).

  I’d be grateful if anyone checked my XML files prior to uploading.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  What is the file extension of the export file?

  Also, what version of WordPress did you export from?

  Hello, thanks for your reply.

  After many hit-and-miss tries, I’ve managed to upload it in chunks. Had to export not one big file, but separate it into one-year splits. (I have a 10 year old blog with lots of media)

  The files larger than 8mb couldn’t be processed.

  I suppose you could conisder making it less strict for future users :)
