Problem in analysing referrers

  • Unknown's avatar

Today, my blog recorded a referrer from twitter. I was very surprised to see this because I’m not on Twitter and no content of my blog has been published there by me. I want to know as to how and why, a twitter referrer was recorded. I’m afraid that someone might be copying my content and posting to twitter. How do I rectify this ?
    Kindly help me
    Thank you

  • Hi there,

I’m afraid that someone might be copying my content and posting to twitter.

Someone didn’t copy your content. They just shared a link to your site.

You display a Twitter sharing button at the bottom of all your posts, so any visitor to your site can use that button to share a link to a post on their Twitter account. If any of their Twitter followers then clicked on that link, they’ll get taken to your post and you’ll see a referral from Twitter.

Even if you didn’t display that sharing button, anyone can still just copy the link from a post on your site and manually paste that into a new tweet on Twitter.

The only way to prevent people sharing your content on social media is to set your site to private so only you have access to it.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I have now understood what you meant. I have no problem with someone sharing my content, as long as the viewers know who the real author is !
    Have a great day @kokkieh
