Problem inserting more tag after post

I am trying to insert the more tag into my posts. I read how to do it but unfortunately, I’ve already written the posts. The instructions say to do this before the post is finished. I’ve inserted pictures and formatted the text the way I want so I don’t really want to start over.
I’ve tried using the more tag button and I’ve also tried inserting <!—more—> using the HTML tab but neither way seems to make any difference in my posts.

Open the post in the editor, put your cursor at the end of the paragraph where you want the more tag and hit return/enter to insert a paragraph break, insert the more tag and click “update post.”
Never insert a more tag within a paragraph, blockquote, ordered or unordered list. It ends up separating HTML tags and will cause your blog to go wacky. Always insert it like it is its own paragraph.

Sorry about being so clueless but how can I tell that it’s at the end of the paragraph? What’s the ending symbol?

The most precise way is to switch to the HTML editor and insert the “more tag” on a blank line.
I Visual editor, you press return, adding a blank line. The insert the “more tag.” -
Thanks for your responses but it’s just not working. Here’s what my HTML looks like:
At the time, my husband Shawn played softball with a great group of guys. One of the guys John was getting married to Gina & they were headed to Vegas to do it in style at the Bellagio. A group of us flew out to join them & had a blast. Shawn & I stayed at Bally’s since it was so close to the Bellagio. Our other friends Cory & Tiffany stayed there, too.</span></h3>

Not much to report about eating, don’t even remember. Tiffany & I played blackjack when we finally met up. She introduced me to a White Russian & I’ve been in love ever since. That night, we were all ready to hit it, since the wedding was getting started early the next morning. </span></h3>
But when I look at my page, it shows an extra line in between the two paragraphs, it continues to show the rest of the post & doesn’t give me anything to click on.

NEVERMIND! I guess I wasn’t giving it enough time to accept the changes. I would click on Preview Changes & View Post and it showed no changes. I just exited & logged back on and it shows the changes.

Preview doesn’t show the changes. The More tag only shows up when you look at the front page of the blog.
