Problem moving DNS

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, hoping someone can help me here. I moved the domain I purchased through WordPress over to GoDaddy as I’m moving to WP.org. Everything is set over on GoDaddy but the url continues to point to WordPress.com. I removed the domain under “domains” but no dice. What else do I need to do?

I have 2 domains for my website. I set the original one to be the primary domain, but the Go Daddy domain still redirects to the old url. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Lauren

Is laurenkrohnnutrition.com the domain you are having trouble with? When I visit that domain, I see your self hosted site. If you just moved the domain to GoDaddy and pointed it to their name servers in the last day or so, it’s likely just a matter of waiting for the DNS change to become active everywhere. That process can take up to 72 hours. If it’s been longer than that, and you are still seeing the domain pointing to the WordPress.com site, or if you are having trouble with a different domain, let me know and we can investigate further.

Hi Liz, Yes- it is laurenkrohnnutrition.com. I received email from both GoDaddy and WordPress yesterday that the domain had been successfully transferred. I went into my hosting account and assigned the domain to wp.org this morning- the support team at Go daddy said it would only take a few minutes. So it will still take longer to switch from WP.com?

Thanks so much for your help.

The process does start in just a few minutes, but it can take a couple of days for every computer who visits the domain to be directed to the right place. This is especially true if you’ve visited the domain when it was connected to the old site. If you visit http://laurenkrohnnutrition.com/ on a new computer, you’ll see the new site when you enter the domain. If in a day or so you are still seeing your WordPress.com site when you go to http://laurenkrohnnutrition.com/, we can investigate farther, but for now, the best option is to wait.
