Problem overwriting/deleting files

I have a file (.doc) on my blog which I would like to update. There is a link to that file in one of my blog’s pages.
Unfortunately, if I upload the new version of the file (with same filename), then the link on my page is still linked to the older version.
If I delete the file, and it does not appear in my uploads anymore, but still when the link on the page is clicked – the file is downloaded.
How do I really get rid of the file (its older version)?

You really just need to change that link. Change the name of the new file and re-upload it, then link to the new name.

But I want to keep the same file name! It’s a file which I regularly update.
Is there a way to update the file, i.e. – erase the old file permanently and upload the new file with the same name?

If you keep the same file name without deleting it from uploads and uploading the updated file in it’s place then this will just keep happening over and over again.
Go to -> Manage -> Uploads and find the file and delete it. Then start anew with the file with the name you want and be aware that you will have to do the same each time you update that file.

You can put a – or a _ . I think I had to do that when I updated a file but I wanted the same name. So I put one of those symbols or put a 1 or a 2. Same thing with Photobucket for some reason.

Seems there’s no real solution to this problem yet.
timethief: thanks for your reply, but I’ve been doing what you said, and it doesn’t help. Even if I delete the original file, and then upload a new file with the same name, I get the old file…

Then it appears that you will have to start adding a number to the renamed file like 1, 2, 3 for each updated version to distinguish it from the first one that was uploaded. If you don’t it seems the problem you are having will simply continue.
