Problem Removing Panels in the Affinity Theme
-
I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I found a problem with the panels in the Affinity theme. I found a workaround, but I wasn’t sure if the bug existed for others, or just me!
I created the new website with the Affinity theme. Then made some minor changes to the theme through Customize. Then added a blog post. Then deleted the Contacts page. Then edited the About page. Then added a new page. Then edited the primary menu.
After all this, the Contact page was still displaying in Panel 2 on the home page. I went back into the theme customization and looked at the setup for Panel 2 and the menu selection was “–Select–“, which is what it should be for that panel to be blank, but the panel was NOT blank.
I ended up having to select another page for Panel 2, saving the website, then re-selecting the “–Select–” option and re-saving to remove Panel 2 completely.
Thanks!

Hi,
After all this, the Contact page was still displaying in Panel 2 on the home page.

It sounds like a caching issue. Had you updated the front page after sending the Contact page to trash? Sometimes, even if you do so, a page can get stuck on a cache if you just reload the page in an effort to update. I usually find that reopening the page in another window resolves the issue. The Browser Issues support page might be helpful. The only other explanation that I can think of is that you hadn’t deleted the Contact page, or sent it trash, when you thought you had. It’s impossible for a page that has been deleted to be one of those assigned to a front page panel. It wouldn’t even appear as an option to choose from at Customize > Theme Options.

Thanks for the suggestions @musicdoc1!
I thought about caching as well, which is why I completely signed out of WordPress.com, closed the browser, and reopened everything. The Contacts page was still being displayed in Panel 2.
The Contacts page was definitely deleted, I triple checked. And no, it did not appear in the list of options in the drop-down menu for Customize > Theme options! That was the very weird thing. According to the setup for Panel 2, it should have been empty. But the Home page still showed the Contacts page in Panel 2.
Odd!

You’re welcome! But it sounds like you were way ahead of me. Evidently then, given the careful steps and rechecking you’ve described, it’s not impossible ; -) And maybe staff can provide some explanation. You may call for staff attention to the topic by adding a “modlook” tag to the sidebar. The side of this topic, that is.

Hi @aliciavc99!
I just took a look and I’m able to see the same results. If I trash a page that’s set as an Affinity panel, the page remains until I manually change the setting – or until I permanently delete the page from the trash.
For me, when the page was trashed, the panel setting in Customizer was blank, not -Select-.
I’ll post this for the design team to take a look at, thanks for pointing it out!
