Problem Setting up Amazon Affiliate Links

I just registered a domain name for my wordpress.com site, and decided I would try Amazon Affiliate links to see what happens. After reading http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/ it seems to be allowable as long as you post a text only link.
Whenever I copy the code from Amazon’s link generator. I get a big block of code instead of the “text” I want to show. When I click on this like I get a “This page cannot be found” message from my site.
I’m testing this out on an older post that doesn’t see much traffic. http://daileywoodworks.com/2014/06/28/my-new-surface/
What am I doing wrong?

It looks like you have figured this out. The link with the text appears correct, and the link goes to the Amazon web page per the link description.

Yes, and thank you. I just kept playing with it until I got it right. I was trying to hyperlink the code to text, like you would for all other links. I figured out that I had to paste it in the “Code” tab of the editor. From there I was able to get what I wanted.

I am trying to insert the amazon affiliate code as well, but am having the same problem as you originally were. Can you please share how you were able to do this properly? Thank you!!

When you are editing a post you have two tabs ‘visual’ and ‘text’. The text tab is the ‘coding’ are. Paste the html into that tab. When you go back to visual you will see the correct hyperlink.
