Problem subscribing to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I installed JetPack on my blog, Without Obligation (https://maryewarner.com), and activated the subscription feature. In order to test this, I signed up for a subscription by entering one of my email addresses not associated with WordPress. When I received the confirmation link in this email account and clicked it, I got an error message that would not allow me to subscribe with that email address. I think it’s because I was logged into WordPress.com at the same time. I can’t recall the exact error message, unfortunately, but this forum discussion seems to capture the gist of my problem: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/users-cant-subscribe-to-wordpress-blog/

I deleted the confirmation email, logged out of WordPress.com, and tried entering the same email address in my subscription form at Without Obligation. Now I’m getting a message that I already have a confirmation email and I need to click the link. Unfortunately, I have deleted that email.

Can someone at WordPress.com resend the confirmation email? Might there be something other than having been logged into WordPress.com while trying to subscribe that caused the original error message?

    Thanks!

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

It does look like this is a known issue and so far, we know that this does seem to happen when logged into WordPress.com.

May I ask you to check if there’s any of the used email addresses in any of the tabs on this page here please: https://subscribe.wordpress.com/

If it’s in the confirmed tab, this means that the subscription was successful.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi, aleone89 – I checked https://subscribe.wordpress.com and see that I have subscribed successfully to my blog, Without Obligation, using my WordPress.com email address, so that’s fine.

However, when I look at the Email Followers under WordPress.com>My Sites>Without Obligation>People, my alternate email address, the one I don’t have a WordPress.com account for, does not appear. It’s this alternate email address that has given me the error message, the first one regarding not being able to subscribe with this email address and the later one under the subscription box on my blog telling me I had a confirmation email for the subscription. Unfortunately, I deleted the confirmation email after it returned the original error.

I’ve got a bit of a chicken-and-egg issue here without the confirmation email. I can’t log out of WordPress.com and confirm my subscription with the other email account without the confirmation email. I’m not sure if there is a way to resend it so I can try to go through the confirmation process without being logged in to WordPress.com

Thanks for your help on this. It’s actually nice to know I’m not the only one with this problem. :)

The problem here is that you were logged into your WordPress.com account when you clicked the confirm subscription link that was meant for the other account. You could have logged out of your account and tried the link again without any issue or you could have copied the link and opened it in an incognito window to confirm your subscription.

Your other account is what is in a “pending confirmation” status, so that would prevent you from signing up again. This is to prevent abuse of the subscription form. Since you deleted the confirmation email and since you can’t sign up again, I went in and removed the pending subscription for the email address that starts with mary@ so you should be able to sign up again.

Let us know if you still have trouble!

Hi, csonnek – It worked like a charm this time. Thanks so much for removing the pending subscription and letting me subscribe again. :)
