Problem uploading personal video
-
I am having an error message when I upload a video. It says:
Error
This video file could not be processed because it does not contain a video track or the video codec is unsupported. The files were originally from a Samsung GalaxyS3 phone and were saved as .mp4 files. I got that error message when uploading them like that. Next, I tried converting them to .mov files and I am still getting the same message. I just bought the VideoPress upgrade and am a little frustrated that there isn’t any help about this subject. Would somebody be able to assist me so I can post my blog soon? Thanks so much!

Hi,
Have you tried, or could you try, to upload the video directly from your phone using the WordPress app available in the Google Play Store? This can help to eliminate any potential issues that arose during the transferring of the the video to your computer.
In your particular case, looking at the videos that were uploaded ( https://thehangulgames.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?post_mime_type=video ), they all are 183 bytes, which is too small for any video. If uploading via the phone fails, can you confirm the size of the file you were uploading?
Thanks!

Hello,
Thanks for the response. The videos are actually already on my computer now as they go through dropbox and are automatically deleted once they load on my computer. However, I checked the smallest video and the original size of the video is 58MB. In the conversion process, it gave me the 183 byte size, but I don’t know why. I am going to try and convert it again and see what happens. Any other recommendations?

I’d try to upload the original again. I see you’ve uploaded more videos—did it work this time around?
Cheers!

Yes I was able to figure it out. I transferred the files to iTunes, then uploaded from iTunes and it worked. However, one of the files was formatting very strangely and covering up wording in the blog. The other 3 didn’t do that, so I tried resizing and adjusting as much as possible, but it still wouldn’t change. So, I uploaded the video to YouTube and just added that link. Once I embedded that one, I realized it played much, much faster than the VideoPress videos. So, that said, we don’t see the need for the VideoPress portion of the account. Do you see any advantage that we are missing? We definitely like to have the domain name and need more storage space, but is there a more affordable option then if the VideoPress isn’t working out for us?

VideoPress’ advantages are two-fold:
- If you don’t want Google/YouTube having control over your content and feel that WordPress.com is better. :-)
- If you want to control visibility of your videos to your website with your “branding” (as you can replace the “VideoPress” watermark with your own).
If neither of those really attract you and YouTube is easier/working smoother than VideoPress, by all means, use YouTube.
Here’s the breakdown of what you have as part of your Premium bundle and the cost of the individual pieces. If what you’d like to keep is less than $99, I’m happy to change things out and refund the difference:
- Domain Name Registration: $18
- Domain Name Private Registration (which “masks” what is in the required, public database): $8
- VideoPress: $60
- Custom Design: $30
- No Ads (removing all ads from your site): $30
- 10 GB Space Upgrade: $20
So, just dropping VideoPress wouldn’t result in a savings, but if there’s something else too, we can save a some coin. :-)
Cheers!
