Problem with a link – to Sacred Path
-
@ Sacred Path – I wasn’t sure where to post this but since the code was posted in this forum I thought I’d do it here.
I sometimes try out some code you folks suggest to others just to experiment and noticed something odd. On the page referenced at the bottom you posted some code so I posted it in my CSS and there appears to be a Skype call/credit link imbedded in the code. I tried pasting and deleting it 2 – 3 times and when looking at my CSS I see the blue Skype link and if I hover over it it says Call or Add to Skype . I only see the Skype link in my CSS file though, it doesn’t appear if I paste the code into a text document.
Anyway, here’s the forum post in question:

@gillestheoldguy, I’ve looked at all the code and links in that post and there aren’t any skype links in any of them.
I would suggest running a complete virus and malware scan on your computer just to be on the safe side, but can you tell me exactly where the code was that you copied out so I can double check?

The code is below. Like I said, I only see the Skype link when I paste it in my CSS editor. It’s right before the color hex. I tried pasting other random code and this is the only code doing it.
I will definitely run a virus scan though.
.widget-area .widget a:visited { color: #003989; } -

I tried pasting the code into my custom CSS and also looked at the code you pasted in above and there is no extra code in there, and I’ve tried it in Chrome, Firefox and Safari on my Mac.
Have you run the virus and malware scan on your computer? This is what I’m seeing where you pasted the code.

Also, check the plugins and extensions you have installed in your browser and see if by some chance something has been installed there without you knowing. We have seen that with a few other users at times.

I’m running a virus scan now.
I think you may be right as I noticed the Skype icon near the top of my Browser (Chrome) a few minutes ago so I uninstalled Skype and Chrome. Also pasted that code back in and it’s fine this time.
Anyway, sorry for the trouble but I didn’t want anyone else getting messed up.
And thanks for checking and suggesting the problem is at my end, much appreciated.

No problems, and anytime something like this occurs, please do bring it to our attention so that we can make sure there isn’t anything going on on our end. This just reminded me I haven’t done a scan of my computer in a while, so I’m doing one too, just to be safe.

Virus scan didn’t turn anything up but I found this little tidbit interesting:
“One of the default Skype features is a browser plugin which scans web pages as they are opened and converts any phone numbers found into it’s own special Skype links. ”
-
Ah, then it may well have been converting the hex color code into a phone number. Silly Skype. :)
