Problem with adding a page break
-
I just published my first post, and already have a problem…. I edited the post to break the text in two pages, the second one would be in Portuguese. Before the page break I added a Brazilian flag and then a phrase stating “for Portuguese, go to page 2”
everything looks fine when I preview, but the moment I hit “publish”, the second page is gone and all that is left is the flag and the “for Portuguese, go to page 2”
anyone able to help me out?
my blog is
bewitchingkitchen.wordpress.com
thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

HI! Hi! hi! Ms. sallybr!!!
Welcome to the forum! Ho-raaay!!! And happy to see you got a start on your blog! I’m sorry that I must, must, must sleep (only slept about 3 hours last night!!). State of mind is wacko, so sorry.)
Perhaps someone else will get you started tonight. I’m so happy to see your getting started!
Here is a really good idea though: link your sallybr name to your bewitching kitchen blog:
“2. How to make your name link to your blog:
Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.” -
It’s not a problem with the theme, you are looking at the front page of the blog.
If you look at the Post itself, you can see the pagination. http://bewitchingkitchen.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/welcome-to-my-blog/

I don’t really know what to do, justjennifer….
I got feedback from some folks in Brazil, they cannot see the pagination either. When I click on your link, the pagination is there, but if I visit the site from my own bookmark, the pagination is not there, and the text from page 2 is nowhere to be found…..
It is soooo frustrating!
hey, Tess…. thanks for the welcome! I will do what you suggest with linking my name to my blog. Hope I can get it right.
panaghiotisadam – maybe your computer and mine are twin sisters and have “issues” :-)

@sallybr-if you think your visitors are going to click through to the translation from your blog’s front page, then Panos’ suggestion would be the best. Make the Brasilian flag link directly to the translation and that way, it’d work no matter if your readers are on your blog’s front page or in the Post itself.
The link would be http://bewitchingkitchen.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/welcome-to-my-blog/2/

ok, at least I got the profile thing to work…
please, be patient with me – when I tried to link the flag to the page 2, I did what I thought I should: went to HTML, highlighted “gallery”, and added the link to the address box
but if I go check the post, when I cick on the flag it takes me to a new page with a much bigger flag in it, no page 2 whatsoever….
is it me? Gremlins? Both?
-
Ah. Don’t use the Gallery tab in the Image Uploader. Gallery is a world unto itself and great if you want to upload and display multiple images together in the same post or page. :)
Instead, click on the flag in the Visual Editor. You’ll see two little buttons show up, click the one that says “Edit image” (the other will delete the photo from the post). Then in the Edit Image window, paste the above address on the line “Link URL”. Click “Update” which will close the Edit Image window and then click on “Update Post” to resave the whole thing.
-
Ok, now the flag is gone, there is just a hot link to the second page, but you know what? That suits me fine!
whatever works I am happy with, the flag can wait….. :-)
-
not sure why the flag disappear, when I tried to edit, instead of “edit image”, it popped up as “edit gallery”
so maybe there is some problem with the way I uploaded the flag to start with…..

Panos-FWIW, same thing happens on my knitting blog, which uses PressRow from the same theme author.
If I use the “Next Page” tag in a Post, on the Front Page it looks like whatever is above that tag is the entire post. However, if you click the Post title to see the Post itself, the pagination shows up.
Regardless, your solution to link the flag to the translation is the elegant one, as always.

Actually, there is another point here which I asked about earlier but didn’t get much reply to and that is what do search engines see when they hit Posts or Pages that use Pagination or the “more” tag. The response I did receive elsewhere, and after doing some searching on WordPress.tv, is that search engines tend to ignore anything beyond the Front Page.
So it would seem that if it is important for sallybr to have her translation easily picked up by search engines, it would be better to keep the entire thing, both English and Portuguese, in the Post and not split it into two pages using pagination.
Again, just my 2¢ worth.

Speaking of search engines, if I may hijack slightly this thread – I noticed that if I google my site, it does not show up at all
also, I tried to use the feedburner link to offer email updates to visitors, and I get a reply back saying that my site cannot be registered
let me know if I should start a new thread about this problem or if it’s ok to just go on moaning about my problems in this one
-
Your blog is too new to be found by Google yet. Plus you have only 1 post. So keep working on it, use tags and categories, and give it some time.
Re: hijacking posts makes it difficult for others with the same question to find information, so it is always best to start a new thread with a descriptive title. Also, if volunteers see your question and know the answer, they can help you.
(also, I don’t really know about the email thing)

Oh, I understand now. I thought that when I asked my post to have visibility by search engines it would immediately make it show up on searches. Very naive of me… :-)
Ok, I will start a new thread on the email issue

Yes, and you will also want to use tags and categories on the posts you write so search engines can find your blog. They are the main reason I recommended WordPress to you. Lots of google-juice.
Here is some information about them:
