problem with adding new tags
-
In the new editor, it has become a problem to add new tags (in Hebrew, right-to-left) which I have not used before. Especially when the tag has more than one word (for instance three words), the editor makes it impossible to type all of them and “decides” that the first and a half words is the complete new tag. Yesterday I managed to fix this via the old editor, but the problem persists in the new one, even after clearing cache and cookies.

Hi there,
Thanks for reporting this.
I don’t know Hebrew myself, but have asked a colleague who does speak it to help take a look at this. I’ll let you know once we have more information.

@adaklara
I just tried in Chrome on Windows and were able to add tags. Can you please try clearing your cache and cookies again? Or simply try a force-refresh by pressing Ctrl-F5 while in the editor page.We’re also still trying to figure out why tags are disappearing. We have been able to reproduce the error, but not consistently, so we haven’t been able to find the cause yet. I see you have also posted to the other thread, here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/tags-disappearing-on-new-posts?replies=9#post-2514850I’ve confirmed that it isn’t specifically a problem with RTL languages like Hebrew, so it might be better to keep all further discussion in that thread, so we have everything in one place.

I had a colleague who speaks Hebrew test this and he did not have the problem – he tried adding very long tags and had no problems with it.
So as I said, I think it’s related to the other thread where you posted. This is happening completely randomly, so it’s most likely coincidence that you’re not having the problem in English. But we’ll keep trying to find out what’s causing this.

Just checking in. I don’t know if you saw in the other thread where you posted, but a colleague has been able to figure out what’s causing this and our developers are working on a fix. You can follow along in that thread, but I’ll also let you know here when it is fixed.
-
I see Velda has already replied to you in the other thread, but at this stage you just need to wait while our developers fix this.
When you say you can’t add tags at all, do you add them by clicking on the list of existing tags, or is this with typing new tags as well?
Please use the old editor for now while we work on this. I’ll let you know once it’s fixed.

When I click on an existing tag, nothing happens – it is not added to the post.
When I try to add a new tag, it sometimes works OK, but mostly it doesn’t: Especially when the new tag has more than one word (for instance three), the editor often accepts the first and a half word as the complete tag and does not allow me to add the remaining words. I have explained this in detail above. -
Okay, the issue with when you’re typing in a new tag is the same as in the other thread where you posted, and we’re working on that.
The issue where you can’t click on an existing tag is new, and I in fact reported it myself only yesterday. I’ll update you here when each of those problems are fixed, but in the meantime I must ask you to please use the WP-Admin editor instead.

Hi @jnylen0,
Clicking on existing tags seems OK.
However, adding new tags is still problematic.
For instance – when trying to type the new tag (from right to left)
אחת שתיים שלוש
the new editor accepts the first two letters:
אח
as a complete tag and wouldn’t let me add the the third letter and the remaining two words. -
We’ve just fixed another issue with tags: https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/pull/2055
To summarize – people had been accidentally putting spaces before or after tag names, which was causing problems. This has been resolved, with automated tests added so the issue doesn’t come back in the future.
I wasn’t able to reproduce your issue with adding tags in Hebrew, but I also don’t speak Hebrew or have a Hebrew keyboard.
Since we just fixed some related things, could you test again and let us know if you’re still having the issue?

@supernovia,
My problem with adding new tags in Hebrew persists, but I think maybe I know what the problem is: when the new tag includes the Hebrew letter ת, the new editor thinks it is the end of the tag and wouldn’t let me go on printing the rest of the letters. This Hebrew letter ת is to be found exactly where the English comma is on the keyboard. Could you perhaps check this? Thank you. -
Yes, @supernovia, it is OK when I paste that letter. I hope you manage to fix the typing as well. Thanks.
