Problem with authorship – wrong author name appearing & creating google issues

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I am having an issue of the WRONG author name (for me) showing up on my blog. It’s correct in settings, personal profile, everywhere I can find.

My author name (public and in settings) is KimberlyPalmer and it ‘displays’ that way on a post – but when you CLICK ON my name on the post, for example, it’s displaying by wordpress as: http://dailyinkling.com/author/pesaaustralia-2/. ‘pesaaustralia’ is a client blog I also write for. But my wordpress profile, gravatar settings, etc are all Kimberly Palmer.

It’s creating issues for me with claiming Google authorship – in Google webmaster tools it’s showing that I’m NOT the author of my own content, even though I’ve verified via email with google AND have the blog as one I contribute to in my google+ profile (google.com/+KimberlyPalmerIdeasgal).

So I’ve done all the ‘google stuff’ but it’s the ‘wordpress stuff’ that’s not working.

    Help please?

  • Hi there,

You may want to try connecting your Google+ profile, as described here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/

When you connect your G+ profile, verification code will be added to your posts to confirm your authorship with Google.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Jerry – I’d already done that long ago too :(

  • Interesting. When I checked your site, I noticed that you did not have it set, as shown here: https://cloudup.com/ct4If3nGsxs

Can you do me a favor and go to Settings>Sharing and connect your G+ profile again?

    Thanks!

That is odd, as when you go into sharing/publicize, it shows that I’m connected. I disconnected and then connected again.

I’d attach a screeshot but it doesn’t seem I can to this? I’ve uploaded instead to my site as a pic, see here:

    Thanks

  • Gotcha… those settings are a little different; they control how your posts get publicized (shared) with social media sites. Not quite the same as connecting your G+ author profile (authorships) but I can understand the confusion. :)

Just scroll down past the Publicize settings (in your screenshot) and locate the “Google+ Profile” section and click on the red button shown here to get started.
