Problem with category function

    I am having a serious problem with the category function on this site, and it is a new problem so it is really confusing me. Every time I assign one of my posts to a category that has more than one word in it, like Sides-Salads, Fruits, Veggies, it makes three new categories: Sides-Salads and a Fruits category and a Veggies category. I have tried using different browsers, and even different computers (PC and Mac) and it keeps doing it. I even took out the spaces between the words (Sides-Salads,Fruits,Veggies) and it still does the same thing. PLEASE HELP!
