Problem with comments on my site. Can anyone help?

  I was having complaints from readers that they were being forced to sign in if they wanted to ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on any of my posts. I checked all the settings and could find no reason for this. Quite the opposite, I made sure the options under ‘discussion’ for readers to be required to sign in were unchecked. I have a screenshot of that page to show that they are unchecked but not sure how to add that in here.

  I tried changing the theme in case it was a glitch with the theme and this seemed successful at first. With the new theme there was no requirement for readers to sign in but it soon showed that the problem had changed into no comments being successfully received at all. One reader contacted me after her comments were not appearing and when I checked there was no sign of any of them. I cleared the spam queue to make sure they were not there. It was noticed then that there had been no successful posting of any comments from anyone since the change of theme. So, I changed the theme again, making it the third theme I have tried. Comments appear again but the same problem in the first theme is present again in the newest theme (commenters being required to sign in despite those selections being unchecked in settings). The problem, therefore, seems to be deeper than whichever theme I am using. I am writing to the blog using my iPad Pro, the WordPress app and Safari.

  Is there anything else I can try to resolve this problem before investigating other hosting sites and the nightmare of transferring. I really don’t want to do that but I do need my blog to be as open as possible to be worth continuing and to serve its purpose.
