Problem with Contact Form shortcode

Hello

I’ve had a personal blog for quite a while but am now creating a more complicated one for my small business http://vabutterflies.wordpress.com. I would like to add a contact form.

I have followed instructions and added the shortcode [contact-form] as described http://support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ All I get is the shortcode appearing as typed in the page and not the actual form.

I then found the list of shortcodes http://support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/ and it says to use [contact-from] which I thought was probably a typo but tried it anyway. No that doesn’t work either.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Put the code into the HTML tab rather than the visual tab. Also, in that page, turn comments off so that it doesn’t confuse visitors with two text boxes on that page.

Thank you, that worked. There was an odd bit of HTML mucking it up. Deleted that and all is well :)

You’re welcome. Just for reference, I find that the various shortcodes here work far more consistently if you put them into the HTML tab.

By the way, I sent a support ticket in on that typo. Thanks for mentioning it.

I am having the same problem, but I have used the shortcode in the HTML tab and turned the comments off. Do I need to put something else in the box to make this work? I have tried everything I can think of and nothing is working.

Can you give us a link to your blog, starting with htpp:// ? It might be easier to correct the issue if we can see it.

I have the same problem.
No difference if inserting the shortcode on HTML or WYSIWYG tab.

@puleddu http://italocalvino.it/contatti is not hosted here at WordPress.com; this shortcode will only work on blogs hosted here. Try searching for a contact form plugin that you can use with your self-hosted blog.

http://www.wordpress.org/support should also help.

@steviemcgee I do not see any WordPress.com blogs registered to your account; make sure your blog is not self-hosted, as noted above.

I see the point now…

but I tried to put on my function.php file the following code
```
function hello() {
    return 'Hello, World!';
}
add_shortcode('hw', 'hello');
```
and calling the shortcode [hw] I have the same result, no “Hello, World!” string, only [hw] on the page…

It was my fault, I was trying the result with the wrong theme.
