Problem with “Contempt” template
-
Hi, I am a newbie and my blog is at
http://francescocaviglia.wordpress.com/
I basically need a static site, using pages only.
I have now two pages, “Profile” and “Selected publications”, qith profile defined as home page.
My problem is that – with the “Content” template, which is otherwise perfect for me – I have both the “Home” and “Profile” menu pointing to the same page.
I tried dodge the problem by deleting the Profile page and putting its content in a post, which in turn became the home page, but in this case I see the datum on the post, which I do not wish to see pm my home page.
Has any of you an idea for
– getting rid of either home or profile in the menu
or, alternatively
– getting rid of the datum and author name in a post?Thank you for your help

You can’t get rid of “Home” as it’s hard-coded into the theme. It’s where the blog posts go, and it cannot be eliminated. You might want to put some content in there anyway, as you’re going to be stuck with it.
The date and author name are also coded into the theme. Unless you change themes you are stuck with them. The only possibility I can see to change this and still use the same theme is to get the CSS upgrade, but that will only work if you know CSS and how to code it.
You have your About page, which is normally the biographical info, as “Selected Papers”. I would suggest rather you make that your bio, and put Selected Papers as its own page. That way the URL will reflect the subject matter, which will help you in search engines and help your readers as well.
You can change which page visitors see as the first page easily enough. Just go to Dashboard — > Options — > Reading and select a page (note you must already have created the page).
