Problem with custom header.
-
Hi all, hop you can help.
I have been using a custom header successfully. I had 3 rotating headers that were set to appear at random. It worked just fine. Something has since changed. Now, there is no header except default. When I try to upload a new one, the upload completes (I can see it in my media folder) but then I go to the crop screen. Here I get the adjustable cropping tool, the ability to save and upload, but no image. I’m basically looking at the crop tool floating over a blank space.
I’ve updated Firefox and Flash. I’ve uninstalled all images from my media folder and tried again. I’ve rebooted. I’ve renamed the images and tried again. I’ve downloaded new images from the interne, and uploaded existing images from my computer as tests, and they have all yielded the same result. File uploads, shows in media, but not visible for cropping or as a header.
Help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again. If that doesn’t work, post back here and we’ll see if we can flag down a staff member to take a look at things for you.

Thanks for the response – but it didn’t work. Cleared “everything” in Firefox including cache and cookies, restarted, same problem.

You should update the link to your username: linking to a deleted blog is not useful to you or to us volunteers here in the help forums.
The header for Pilcrow should be 770 x 200. Have you tried uploading images of that exact size?
For me, the crop function for headers has always been touchy and flighty: does not seem to work consistantly…

Hmmm. Why doesn;t my username go to the correct blog? And how can I fix that?
I’ve tried cropping the image down. nothing has worked….

@ndp420
Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes. -

Go to your Media Library and delete the header image. Then create a new header image that’s exactly 770 x 200, give it a different file name, and upload it here > Appearance > Header. That ought to work for you.

Thanks – I’ve tried this. Same problem. When I upload it, just a cropping tool appears, no image.
-
Could you please go to Media > Add New, upload one of the 770×200 images you tried, and give us its URL so we can check the image?

Yes indeed the URL would be useful to have.
Images » Troubleshooting Images
If you’re having a problem uploading images, please check if your image file is properly formatted. It is best to stick to letters and numbers only. If the file name of your image has other characters they will be removed or replaced with the ‘-’ symbol.

Also, should mention, when the 770×200 image is uploaded, I do not see the cropping tool, as is probably normal if you upload an image of the correct size. But it still doesn’t show up.

@flygin: I tried your image in my test blog (using Pilcrow) and had no trouble uploading it as a header image – no crop tool no nothing. So it’s probably a browser issue on your part.
One last thing to try, just in case (although I don’t think that’s the cause of the problem: your image is at 96dpi; try 770x200px but resolution 72dpi.

Oh! I just visited your blog and I’m seeing that image in your header. Refresh, refresh!
-
So strange. I still don’t see it despite refresh! Progress…….(?)
Thanks so much for helping…..

Ok, has to be browser related. Just loaded my page using internet explorer and I see it now too. Any ideas what I can do to Mozilla to fix this?
-
Now I’m seeing your rodrack image (in all three browsers I’m using).
What you can do to Firefox? Other than what thesacredpath originally suggested, go to Preferences > Content > Load images automatically > Exceptions and make sure wordpress.com isn’t list as an exception.
