Problem with display of RSS feed

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to display the rss feed generated by blueorganizer (feed = http://s3.amazonaws.com/blueorganizer/juniorbonner/books). I put the feed in a rss widget in my sidebar but nothing shows up and I keep getting an error. There is nothing wrong with the feed as it is showing up in other feedreaders. I’ve even put it through feedburner (feed = http://feeds.feedburner.com/JuniorbonnerRecentBookBluemarks) and still nothing.
What the hell’s the matter with the thing??
    Any help welcome

I guess I should point to the blog I am having trouble with – http://susanoo.wordpress.com/

This is the url of your blog’s feed (minus the little tick marks)
and if you are putting any other url in the rss widget it will not work properly.
This will help you set up and configure your widgets.

    TT-that’s not the problem here.

junior – try leaving off the feed= part and just put in the address you have there.

Thanks for stepping in Vivian. I guess I safely assume then that he/she is not really talking about the wordpress.com rss widget, and that he/she means she’s creating a text widget with a link in it? I couldn’t really tell.

P.S. Vivian – are you aware of the strange little letters on your blog that appear between the sidebar and your photo?

I’m not seeing any strange letters. You must have looked when I was trying to add another text widget. There seems to be a problem with the Regulus theme – adding a widget below the one I have now (with the subscriptions in it) causes it to go to the top and overlap the first one. Not sure why this is the case but it happens every time.

*sigh* I really wish folks would put warnings on links to adult blogs. :(

Oh well, not much help there.
timethief: I was under the impression that the rss widget for sidebar is a means to display a feed in your sidebar. This is how I am displaying my last.fm feed on the blog. That works ok, so I cant understand why the feed from blueorganiser or feedburner is not showing up.

vivian: of course I am not including the feed= part in the set up, I’m not a complete twit

drmike: its not an adult blog, its art. But I take the point. Any suggestions re the problem at hand…..

Now that I’m at a place where I can get away with pulling up stuff like that. :)

well, it doesn’t validate. That might have something to do with it.

Does work for me when I put it into my test blog though.

Drmike – thanks for that. I guess wordpress is a little more fussy about their feeds than other places. I’ll have a word with the provider, see if they can sort it out.

Should still work though since it works on my site. It’s the exact same php files that work for my blog that works for yours.

If this is for your other blog, then you need to be over at http://wordpress.org as that’s different software and our answers would be different.

hi guys.. is there a way to get the RSS feeds from my side bar into my actual Post area? I have seen this done on many sites. In other words the RSS Feeds are showing up great on my side bar, but I would love to know how to configure it so they automatically show up in the main text of my blog just like a post)

    Thanks,
    Dave

Generally, it’s illegal under US law (and thus WordPress.com terms of service) to put it in your post area unless it’s only your own original posts that you’re putting there.

Bloggers create content. They don’t set up feeds to the content from other sources and call that a post. If the feeds could be placed in the posting space then wouldn’t that be a convenient sploggers tool?
