Problem with editor = edit link on blog defaults to New Visual
-
Supposed to be able to select an editor (classic or new) and text or visual. The selection changes based on where I click an edit link.
I thought I was supposed to be able to choose one editor and have it apply across all of my editing choices. (That is stated in the “sticky” post detailing the new editor.)
I have screen shots of all the various stages of this… bur there appears to be no way to upload them/reference them in a forum thread. If you are interested I can upload or email them.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it. Don’t forget to enter the modlook thread for their attention in the sidebar of this thread.

OK, the images got shrunk down a bit more than I planned, but there is a enough detail to see what is going on. If I need to do this again, I can….
1. Create post using Classic editor in text mode.

I didn’t use paragraph tags, because even the Classic editor would remove those from time to time….2. Published post is view able here
http://wheelgun.wordpress.com/2014/10/26/testing-testing-123/3. I click on the “edit” link at the bottom of the post. I am presented with the “Beep Beep Boop” juvenile screen (I am sure there is a time delay built into that… how many seconds do you waste?) seen here
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/ZendoDeb/misc/WPEditorInsanity/BeepBeepBoop_zps9827ccce.jpg4. I am presented with the “new and improved” editor, even though by defaults clearly point to classic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/ZendoDeb/misc/WPEditorInsanity/NewEditorVisual_zps646d745a.jpgThe closed/sticky post under the support forum clearly states “We deployed some recent updates to the editor preference. Now, if you switch back to the classic editor, you should consistently be directed to your Dashboard through all “New Post” and “Edit Post” links across your site.”
This is not the case.
NOTE: I am saving all cookies from wordpress.com. If there is a different domain I should be saving cookies from, it would be nice to have that documented somewhere. In general, unless I whitelist them, cookies from unknown domains are purged 110 seconds after I close an associated window, most cookies I know about get purged when I close the browser. WP cookies stick around. Because settings isn’t enough

Hi there,
I’m sorry, but the screenshots are very small. Nevertheless, I think I have a good idea of what’s going on.
You stated this:
In general, unless I whitelist them, cookies from unknown domains are purged 110 seconds after I close an associated window, most cookies I know about get purged when I close the browser.
Can you try turning that off and allow your cookies to stay just as a test and see if it works?
-
Yes I can. But by asking me to do this you are admitting that you do not know WHAT COOKIES you are storing on my computer.
I will do this Tuesday and report back. And then I will start looking for a new home for my blog. Because A) you shouldn’t be storing this value in a cookie, B) you don’t know what domains you are using to administer my blog, and C) you are asking me to disable my privacy protection – so I can guess how you view the subject of privacy.
I will report back on Tuesday. But this is not a valid request.
A valid request would be for me to add an additional domain to the whitelist.

And if you can’t provide a list of domains (non-advertising related) that you use in your development, then someone in release management needs to update their résumé
-
Ok cool. :) If you whitelisted wordpress.com you should be good to go. It should stick up to 6 weeks – unless you clear your cache/cookies.
-
It should it doesn’t. WordPress.com has been whitelisted for weeks. Everyone I encounter keeps telling me “we use the same cookie.” You don’t.
WordPress.com cookies are whitelisted. The stay around FOREVER. I don’t like it, but I didn’t design and write this system.
I access “create new post” OR “edit post” via the dashboard, or the list of all posts, anywhere from the administration interface, and I get the CLASSIC editor, and get TEXT. If I click on the “edit” link from a post or the main page of my blog I get the “new and improved” editor, and I get VISUAL.
I am going to shout.
YOU ARE NOT USING THE SAME DAMN COOKIE EVERYWHERE.
I am NOT Good. IT DOES NOT WORK, not even as advertised.
I don’t like the new editor, but I would be willing to put up with it (if you got rid of the damn Beep Beep Boop insanity) if it always gave me a text editor.
-
OK I disabled self-destructing cookies. Please note that I still log off of WordPress. I don’t keep active login sessions when I am not at my computer.
I access the classic editor for my test post via the dashboard in TEXT mode
https://wheelgun.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/editpostfromdashboard.jpgAll is well.
I go to the main page of my blog and click on the “edit” link for the post. This brings up the new and improved editor in VISUAL mode.
https://wheelgun.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/editpostfromeditlink.jpgLife sucks.
As you can see in the 2nd jpg, the continued exposure to the new and improved editor has stripped out all formatting, even the ‘default’ paragraph formatting of the text editor. The post started life with paragraph/end-paragraph HTML tags. (Apparently they have been deprecated when I wasn’t looking, because WP ALWAYS strips them out, and I don’t want you to do that…)
Anyway. It doesn’t work.

Thanks for this, but I am unable to reproduce this. When I clicked on Edit, I went to the bottom right and chose the Classic Editor. It was remembered as I clicked on Edit again within the same post. Also, when I chose the Text editor that was remembered as well.
I have created a screencast for you:
It might be something with your browser. Try contacting their support team to see if there are any issues.
