Problem with embedding youtube video on my posting
-
Hi,
In the past, I used to embed videos on my posting by inserting the URL (via Add Media function) but that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Then, I read on your Forum that all I need to do now is to copy the youtube url onto my posting, and the video will appear when it is published. I tried this many times but the method doesn’t work either. What could have gone wrong? Please advise and help.
Thanks.

What is the exact URL starting with http:// of your site please?
I’m asking because we cannot accurately answer questions posted here until we have confirmed the URL referred to and verified the hosting.
If you are referring to a wordpress.COM hosted site then have you read the relevant support doc and acted on what you found there?
Are your referring to one of the supported video sources listed here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/ like youtube ?
For youtube embedding into wordpress.COM blogs see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
For using the shortcode see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode
For troubleshooting see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#troubleshooting
NOTE: If you are trying to embed a youtube channel code that will not work.
If you still have issues with a specific video please provide the video URL and also the URL of the post.

Hi, I am referring to my wordpress.com site.
Yes, I have read https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/, followed the instructions in there, tried a few times but still can’s get it right.
This is my latest posting which I have had problem in embedding two videos. All I got was the URL for the videos but not the video image as I used to get in my previous postings.
I have never had problems with embedding videos in the past when I used the “Add Media” function, by inserting the URL from Youtube.
Below is one example of a more recent posting (last October) which has the video image appear nicely. So, please enlighten me how to resolve this issue.
Secondly, why can’t I use “Add Media” function now and insert the youtube URL, as in the past?
Thanks!

Have you exhausted your free Media Uploads space allocation?
Go to https://qingmoments.wordpress.com/2016/02/14/chinese-new-year-celebrity-cruise/wp-admin/upload.php pleaseIf you have exhausted it then see here Adding Storage Space
https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/If you have not exhausted it then try using the youtube shortcode https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode

RATS! I’ll post those two shortcode links again below

Hi, thanks for helping. It works with the shortcode now. By the way, I have not exhausted my storage space.
As I am not very IT savvy, and not good at HTML, I have more questions, and I hope I don’t sound silly. Looking at the two shortcode links you have provided, both ended with %5D after the video URL, does it mean that this is the standard shortcode to use in future when I insert video URL again?
Now, another question, not related to video insertion though.
How to reduce the gap/space between two lines (or sentences). Back to this URL below, after I succeeded in getting the video image using the shortcode from you, I realised that the gap between my description for the video and the video image is too large. I tried reducing it by working on the HTML, but it didn’t work. Please can you enlighten me again. Thanks a million!
I am finding WordPress more and more user-unfriendly these days despite the improvements over time. I wonder if it is time for me to consider another option.

I’m not sure that I understand what you are trying to do with the spacing. Can give me a more specific example?

Hi rootjosh,
In the above posting, I have embedded two Youtube videos of mine. You will see that there is a large gap (space) between the title of the video and the video I embedded. I tried to close the gap but failed. Who do I need to do to solve the problem.
Thanks.

So, the issue is that you need to not use the shortcode and not add in centering formatting. This is what you end up with:
<p style="text-align: center;">[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6-PQttpUxo%5D%5D</p>When it needs to just be:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6-PQttpUxoI have fixed the first one for you. Take a look and see how it looks.

Hi rootjosh,
Thanks and this is what I wanted to achieve! I have managed to fix the second video.
What I do not understand is, why do I get such a problem now? I never had such spacing problem in the past even when I set to embedded video to be in centre position.
Thanks again for solving my problem. Have a nice day!
