Problem with first letter of category
-
Okay, this one has me stumped. Today, when creating some new Categories for my blog, I noticed that one I created called “Writing” showed up in the category list in all lower case, as “writing”, even though I KNOW it was entered with a capital W. All the other categories I added right before that showed up with their first letter in uppercase, but “writing” didn’t. So I deleted that category, and re-added it… this time watching very carefully to make sure I typed it in as “Writing”. As soon as I added it, it showed up in the list of all my categories in all lowercase!
Is there some secret rule I’m missing here that forces this one word to be all lowercase, but lets any other category name I create be upper and lowercase? This isn’t a huge deal I guess. It’s just one of those little things that is bugging me to death because there’s no logical explanation for it, and now I really HAVE to know why it’s doing this.
Go to http://philpike.wordpress.com and look at the bottom of that post to see what I’m talking about. It’s actually showing up in all lowercase in both the “Posted in” and the “Tagged” sections. I swear I entered it with a capital letter. Honestly. :) Somebody please tell me I’m not losing my mind.

No you’re not losing your mind – and there IS an explanation: you already have “writing” as a tag. Tags and categories are the same pool of data.

And once again the user community does exactly what it was designed to do! Thanks so much for solving this mystery. Now I can rest easy knowing that my mind is intact. Well, partially anyway.

Looking at your blog now, I can see that you’ve got a capital in the sidebar but not in the list of tags and categories below the post. In order to have those with a capital, too, changing the names is not enough: you must delete the category and the tag and create them anew.
