problem with follow blog widget
-
A colleague clicked on the Follow Blog widget. I got this email from her. “Signed up to follow your blog but when I got the email confirming my request, I clicked on Confirm, and nothing happens.”
Can you help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Monica!
Would you be able to confirm which of your blogs your colleague was trying to follow? I can see that your main blog, monicakeane.com, is set to private and so your colleague wouldn’t have been able to see that site, unless they’re a user on it.
Would you also be able to let me know your colleague’s WordPress.com username? I’ll be happy to look into this further with you.

Sorry. It’s http://www.anningroup.com
I am the administrator and my username is (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Barbara Annin, the site owner, is (email visible only to moderators and staff) -
Hi Monica.
I took a look at Barbara’s subscriptions and the confirmation seems to have worked correctly. If you ask her to take a look at the blog’s she’s following via the following link, she’ll see The Annin Group listed:
https://wordpress.com/following/edit/
New posts will appear in her WordPress.com Reader, however, she’s not currently set up to receive email notifications for them. If she wants to set that up then she can do so by clicking ‘Edit’ next to The Annin Group on the above page, and then choosing the frequency she’d like to receive emails for that blog.

Not sure I understand. Who are you referring to in this sentence–Barbara or the person who wants to follow Barbara’s blog?
If you ask her to take a look at the blog’s she’s following via the following link, she’ll see The Annin Group listed:
I guess I assumed if someone wants to follow the blog, they will just get the blogs sent to their email address. It seems this isn’t the way it works. Am I right in assuming that anyone who wants to follow the blog needs a WordPress Reader account?

Hi Monica.
Sorry for the confusion. I’d like to know the WordPress.com username for the person who attempted to follow your blog, but couldn’t. I made the assumption that Barbara was the person you meant after providing her details.
-
The person who wanted to follow doesn’t have a wordpress username. She is just someone who visited the site and clicked on the Follow Blog widget.
I have subsequently taken that widget down since we don’t really know how it works.

Hi Monica.
You’re right that non-WordPress.com users should be able to input their email to follow your blog. I can check our logs to see what went wrong in this case if you can provide the person’s email address. If you write the address here, it’ll be automatically hidden from public view and only WordPress.com staff will be able to see it.

The email address is
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
and here is what she told us.Signed up to follow your blog but when I got the email confirming my request, I clicked on Confirm, and nothing happens.

Hi Monica.
From our records, I can see that the email address you gave is still marked as pending confirmation.
To test whether there was an error with the confirmation flow, I temporarily reactivated the Follow Blog widget on your site and was able to successfully follow your blog using an email not associated with a WordPress.com account.
I’m unsure what went wrong in the case of your colleague but my feeling is that it was due to a browser issue. They can get around this by manually confirming their subscription. To do this, could you ask your colleague to visit the following page:
While logged out of WordPress.com, they’ll be given the option to input their email address to request details of their subscriptions. They’ll then be emailed a URL, which will lead them to a management area for their WordPress.com subscriptions. Once here, they can head to the ‘Pending’ section, and then select ‘Confirm’ underneath your blog’s name.
Let me know how this goes!
