Problem with former blogsite
-
I am the incoming President of a Rotary Club of the developing world. The former maintainer of our site had a dispute with the club and was stripped of membership. In retribution, he has locked the site and refused to hand over the passwords, We have two problems: the site has the world-wide copyright symbols of Rotary International, of which he is not a member, as well as containing much material that he did not write and has no right to exploit. More importantly to us, it misinforms people about both the time and venue of our meetings. People literally fly internationally only to miss the meetings. We would like this website to be removed from search engines so that charity workers coming in to this country are not hampered by one person’s peevishness.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@bobquiggin I’m so sorry to hear that. It sounds like he is owner of the site, though. I can understand him not wanting to give you passwords to his personal account, especially if he has other sites. But he can transfer ownership if he’s willing. We have a how-to here, or he can get in touch with us:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/Otherwise, if the Rotary Club is willing to work with you on it, they could file a copyright notice. Please read this and decide if that’s your best option:
https://automattic.com/dmca-notice/A third option is to just go ahead and make a new site with the right info, and basically drown out the old site.
Best wishes in choosing a resolution!

Thanks. Option 1 will not work as the individual refuses to cooperate. As Rotary International is rather protective of their branding, I’ll see what they wish to do about it. We do have a new site and new Facebook page etc. but it’s a specific enough thing that both appear on page 1 of the Google search results.

@bobquiggin, that’s too bad. Perhaps you’ll be able to patch things up, but if not I hope the other options help.
