***Problem with Free Domain name
-
I’m new to this. I upgraded immediately to Premium, thinking I would get the free domain name, yet every time I try to register, it indicates that I will be charged an additional $18. What am I doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Custom Domain is part of the Premium bundle.
What happens if you go ahead and register. I am thinking it doesn’t really charge because you already purchased the Premium bundle.

I considered that. If that is the case, this application is anything but userfriendly. “Trust Us, it will work” Not sure I have that level of trust in a new (to me) application. I guess I’m only risking $18.

Let me assure you that WordPress.com staff are a friendly bunch and are happy to refund should you double pay.
Since you have a paid upgrade on your account, you can contact the staff at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ with your concern. They will be more than happy to help you :-)

Hi ronplante718,
I saw your question in the Staff Answer forum and responded there. :)

I had a similar question last week. I have a couple of free blogs I just started that I want to upgrade to Premium and have a custom domain name. I wasn’t sure if I should set up the domain name first, or upgrade to Premium first. In other words, the order I should do things in wasn’t quite clear to me. It seems like you’re recommending upgrading to Premium first, then setting up the custom domain name, right? Thanks.

OK, Alex, If you will scroll to the top, you will see that I started this thread by saying that I already upgraded to premium. I was assurred here that I would not be charged the extra amount, as all would be straightened out by WordPress. So I took a leap of faith and signed up for my “Free” Domain name. I just recieved a receipt (Receipt ID: 7328378 ) from WordPress.com thanking me for my payment of $26.00. What gives?

Hi Ron,
The $26 was charged because you registered the domain name with a different WordPress blog than the one which has the Premium plan.
You registered theplanteconnection.com under the blog theplanteconnection.wordpress.com, while Premium was under the blog theplanteconnectiondotcom.wordpress.com
I’m happy to refund the $26 and correctly associate the domain with the same blog as your Premium plan — which WordPress blog would you prefer to have both upgrades associated?
Best,
-Alex G.
