Problem with Gateway Theme display on my site

I just applied the Gateway theme to my website and I’m having an issue with the way it’s centering (or not centering) content in the main body of each page. In the demo, the main content is centered and fills about 60-70% of the full width of the screen. When applied to my website (which does not have any additional CSS code added), the main column is off center and only about 50% of the width of the screen. It’s almost as though it thinks there’s an invisible right sidebar and it’s pushing the content over to accommodate that. How do I fix it?

I just wanted to add — the site header (with title and top menu bar) is centered correctly.

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

Currently, I can see the theme set is Dara.

I’ve taken a look at Gateway, and it does have a full width template, which would need to be set in the page attributes: https://wordpress.com/support/pages/page-options/

    I hope this helps!

Hello, and thanks for your reply! After my initial posts here, I did see the instructions in the Gateway theme to change the settings in Page Attributes as you’ve described. However, when I went to the Page Attributes settings in my pages, no such option was present in any of them (I just had the parent page and page order options, as the screenshots in WP’s support pages show). It was both baffling and frustrating.

I did switch to Dara after too much time trying to make the Gateway theme work — it just looked too bad to me to leave up. (This was after I downloaded the code for Gateway to see if I could figure anything out there, but my knowledge of program code is nowhere near good enough.) It looks like the last updates to Gateway were made in 2016, if I remember right; is it possible that WordPress changed some of its interface or options since then and now that particular setting no longer displays?

It is difficult to troubleshoot theme issues if the theme itself is not active, but we’ll try and do what we can.

It’s possible, but I was able to test it on my own site and I had the full-width Page options available.

I will note that the full-width option is only for Pages, not Posts. This theme does not offer a full-width Post template.

If you use Gateway and create a new Page under Pages -> Add New, you should see the template options here:

If you want to try again, can you try and edit one of your Pages using the Gateway theme and see if you still have trouble? If so, please let us know what Page you’re trying to edit and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks!
