Problem with Gravatars

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
When I set up this account I needed to provide an email address for people to contact me. HOwever, the email address is not EXCLUSIVELY used for the business of this website, which is managed by me, a volunteer. Our church does not have it’s own email, and relies on volunteers to manage the site. The problem is that the email address I used for other business is now showing this gravatar, even thought I have deleted all gravatars from the gravatar account to get to the bottom of it.
In addition, a PREVIOUS gravatar is still associated with a previous email address I was using, which is now being used for another organization.

This whole gravatar business is A MESS. Either put the feature right in the word press site or get rid of it altogether. when we have to make changes with our email addresses it is a huge boondoogle.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I don’t see any gravatar images uploaded to your account with the username fgffv. Where exactly are you seeing the image? And for which email address?

  • Unknown's avatar

#1 I deleted all the gravatars.
#2 I am seeing the image on SENT emails from my account (generally appear on mobile devices). If I send myself a test message to myself from the previous email address I used for this site, the OLD avatar is attached, even though I deleted it from the Gravatar site.
    #3 It’s for a @live.com email address I used.

  • Have you checked whether the image might be uploaded to your profile on your email account?

Uploading the image to Gravatar won’t also make it show on emails from your address, not unless your email provider is integrated with Gravatar. However, most webmail providers have a personal profile section where you can upload an image to associate with that email account.

    1) Yes.
    2) Gravatar/Wordpress are integrated are they not. That’s where the problem started.

  • Gravatar/WordPress.com are integrated. Gravatar/your email account are not. There is no way adding an image to your Gravatar/WordPress.com account can cause the image to be automatically added to emails that you send out.

    Check this out:

    Gravatars

“WordPress.com associates an Avatar with your email address. Gravatar powers the user avatars on WordPress.com. Your WordPress.com and Gravatar accounts are linked automatically.

Once you configure your avatar, you’ll see it when you comment on blogs, when you post to the forums, and with any post displayed in WordPress.com’s community features.”

Next question: Should we perhaps have a dedicated email address for the site?

  • Please read the second paragraph that explains how we use the Gravatar:

Once you configure your avatar, you’ll see it when you comment on blogs, when you post to the forums, and with any post displayed in WordPress.com’s community features

We associate the Gravatar with your email address on WordPress.com sites and other services that use Gravatar. We don’t have access to your email account, so we can’t add it to your profile in your email account.

If you sign up for another service using Gravatar with the same email address you use here, that service will use the profile picture you uploaded to Gravatar. But there is no way uploading an image to Gravatar will let that image display on emails you send from your email account.

Should we perhaps have a dedicated email address for the site?

You can certainly do that, if you want. You can change your email address under account settings:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

That will change the email address both here and at Gravatar.com.
