Problem with how older posts show on mobile for Rebalance theme

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I love the look of the Reblance theme, but I’ve discovered it does strange things with older posts summaries on the home page on a mobile (desktop and tablet views are OK). Some of the post summaries overlap each other, images on top of images, words all jumbled. Is there a way to upload screen shots to here to show you (it seems to be affecting iPhones and not android)?

It seems to affect the first and last post summaries when you click on ‘older posts’. I’ve got my site set to show 6 posts at a time (I think – could be 9) and the last post of the previous loaded results plus the first post of the next jumble together – the div containers overlap I think.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there,

I’m unable to replicate this, but that’s not surprising since I don’t have an iPhone. I’ve tagged staff to get some extra eyes on testing this though.

A screenshot would definitely be appreciated nonetheless! You can use a site like https://prntscr.com to upload it and leave a link here.

    Thank you!

  • Noting I’ve only got android as well, and the tests I tried from my browser’s iphone emulator all looked fine.

But a few staff members who will be online tomorrow have iPhones.

Can you also get screenshots and upload them in the meantime? You can upload to another service, or just upload to wordpress.com/media — staff can check there, or you can paste links to the images.

Thank you (again) torres126 and supernovia – here are the screen shots:

    I appreciate your help!

    Thanks :)

  • Good morning –

Thanks for the screen shots! They’re worth a million words :) And there’s definitely something odd happening…

    Please share the following:

    – iPhone version #
    – iOS version #
    – browser type and version #

I am using an iPhone 8 and checked the site in both Chrome and Safari browsers and do not see the problems that you noted in the screen shots.

Has anyone else reported this issue or is it just something you’re seeing? It could be localized to your own set up.

Another easy thing to try is to uninstall and reinstall your browser app on the iPhone, then view the site once more.

    Hi – IPhone 7, iOS 12.1.4

Browsers are up-to-date versions of Opera, Firefox and Safari.

    Rubbish on all of them.

Someone who has an iPhone 4 is also seeing the issues.

Thanks for idea of uninstalling/installing – I’ve recently already done this.

    Thank you for your help.

    L

  • Can you please give the version numbers of the browsers as well?

Someone who has an iPhone 4 is also seeing the issues

The iPhone 4 runs iOS 7, which hasn’t been updated since 2014, so it wouldn’t be strange to see issues on that device. It’s likely using a much older version of Safari that is not compatible with the newest versions of HTML, CSS and JavaScript that is used to build your site.

    Hi

Safari – obviously matches the iOS version

    Firefox – 15.0 (13894)

    Opera (touch) – 1.5.0

Frankly if it is just my phone (and the older iPhone 4) then I’m happy but I can’t assume it is at the moment.

    Thanks muchly :)

  • Hi there,

I also have IPhone 7, iOS 12.1.4 and am seeing the same thing you’re seeing in your screenshot in both Chrome and Safari. It looks like any pre-iphone 8 devices are seeing this issue if staff-zinnia isn’t seeing anything on her end. I’lll look more into this and let you know if I find anything.

    Thanks!

    Thanks darnelldibbles,

There are a lot of us out there with pre iPhone 8 phones, so it’d be marvellous if we can work this out. I appreciate your help.

    Lynn

  • Hi Lynn, just noting it may take us a little more time to sort this out given that only some of us can see it.

I did want to ask, though: do you see the same issue on the theme demo here?
    https://rebalancedemo.wordpress.com/

If not we might try checking your widgets and what not to see if any could be interfering.

Hi supernovia – yes it’s the same with the demo site:

Looks like there’s been another report of this issue: https://github.com/Automattic/themes/issues/679

  • Yeah it looks like this issue was just opened. We’ll see what the theme team can do with it.
