Problem with Like, Comments and Followers Icon upper Right Corner on Dashboard

I am having a problem with the Icon on the upper right corner of the dashboard that turns orange when someone “Likes”, comments or follows your blog.
It alerts me that someone has done so, by turning orange with the appropriate icon, but when I click on it, the box drops down and the little daisy wheel just sits and spins in the drop down box.
This is the second full day it has done this, I tried clearing my cache and it still does it.
Any suggestions ? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Timethief, as always it is a pleasure when you respond to a question I have, you are most kind.
I did as you said and went to the link, clicked on Firefox and it said I am using the current version. So guess it is not that.

Hello there, Sorry you’re having trouble with your notifications indicator.

Could you please log onto your site in another browser such as Google Chrome and let me know if you’re experiencing the same problem, or if it’s specific to Firefox?

If the problem is only happening with Firefox, return to that browser and make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/.
After you do this, refresh your Dashboard in your browser window and click the notifications indicator.

If the issue persists, it is possible that a browser extension, plugin, or another add-on is interfering. I’m going to have you turn those off and try to view your notifications again. If you’re unsure how to disable add-ons, see below:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons
As above, once you complete this step, refresh your Dashboard in your browser window and click the notifications indicator.

Finally, if none of those solutions has worked yet, I’d like you to enable HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

I’m looking forward to hearing how each of these steps works for you. Thanks very much!

thanks that will have to happen on another day, as I only use Firefox for years now, and the notifications indicator has worked perfectly since it was started, my blog is around 5 yrs old now, until two days ago.

I will have to download another browser an all that I will check the other things that you mentioned as well. Thanks
