Problem with links to posts
-
I am using the Digg 3 theme and am wondering I might be using it incorrectly or have discovered a bug.
Here’s my blog at this point…
http://dacohens.wordpress.com/The links to pages all work fine and consistently. Links to posts that I insert using the Insert Link function are the problem.
My process for inserting links – I grab the permalink from a post, go to the main post page, highlight some text for the link, click the insert link button, paste in the permalink and click Insert – Done.
At that point, the links work. I believe they work when I am logged into my account. When not logged in they do not. Is there a path issue or issue using the permalink path when notlogged in? Am I simply doing something that is not allowed? Seems like a typical need, to link to various posts, etc. Please help!! I need to send this out to my friwends and family asap!!
Thank you!!

Sorry, lets continue here, since the topic has shifted from that original post. Plus I think the question above is more clear. I hope.

It is clear after I tested again, that my links to posts from my main blog page work only when I am logged into my account. When logged out, all the links display a Not Found page in the center target area. The right/left side column content remains fine, and all the page tabs at the top link and function fine. I hope this is just a simple flub on my part.

The specific message reads…
“Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.” -
(Good choice, since it’s best that thread titles match their content!)
Did you check my response in the other thread? To repeat:
In your “Tahoe Trip” post, you have a link saying “More pictures”, but that links to the main URL of your blog.
But I don’t really understand what’s going on in your blog in general. Is the sticky post you’ve got up front meant to link to other posts? WHERE ARE THEY?
-
Hmm, researching more now – is this happening b/c all my posts are not “published”? This would make sense. I was keeping them unpublisjhed b../c I was looking for a way to not have all my posts strung down off the maion page. I want to use this more like a website and not a continuous page with posts on it. There must be another way to achieve that and still have all posts publisjhed and available to be linked. I feel dumb now. Don’t show this question post to anyone ;-j

Ah that explains it (the “unpublished” part, I mean, not the “dumb” part)!
Yes, you cannot link to unpublished posts. And yes there’s a very easy way to achieve what you want (with normal published posts): just turn that sticky post into a page, and set that page as a static front. This way the main posts page will no longer be accessible, and visitors will only be able to access specific posts the way you want them to.
-
Posts must be published to have a real permalink. If they are drafts, the URL is not really the permalink.
If posts are not published, people cannot see them. You can see them when you are logged in, but others will not be able to see them.
