Problem with More Tag
-
Has something happened to “More Tags”? I had a more tag in my post http://katerauner.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/my-new-book-venture-now-available/
The “continue reading” has disappeared and the link to that previous continuation says “oops”. I have been using the link to that continued page in promotions for my book (its an excerpt) so I really want it back. I tried several times to re-insert the More Tag and it didn’t take (just like I never tried to insert it)
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The more tag can be used once only in any post. It truncates the text on the front page of the blog only. The setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.
If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/Is that what you did?
Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. Here are the themes that do provide that feature > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410

I had inserted a single More Tag in the post. When I first published the post, it worked fine. In my edit window I still see the “more” but it no longer appears on the post and the link that previously went to the continued item says “oops” when clicked. I tried to remove and reinsert the More Tag, but it did not “take”, even tho I see the “more” in my edit window.
Since it was working before, the theme should be (was) fine and I’d rather not change that.
Any ideas? -
That is very weird. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi there,
What the exact link that’s giving you the “oops” error?
I went to your blog at http://katerauner.wordpress.com/ and I see the “Continue Reading” link on that post, as expected. I clicked the link and it took me to your blog post here: http://katerauner.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/my-new-book-venture-now-available/#more-1082
Is that link not working for you, or is it a different link that isn’t working?

The more tag is not visible on the individual post page, only on the main page of the blog.

I didn’t change anything – I had removed the old MORE TAG and inserted a new MORE TAG which also wasn’t working when I started this thread – but now it IS working . I bet you guys think I’m nuts… but I think you snuck in and fixed it…. either way, it’s back to normal. I now have a new/revised url to the “continued” post. :) The previous url that was giving me the “oops” is http://katerauner.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/my-new-book-venture-now-available/#more-1082 (in case you’d like to look at it), but I’ll just purge that old link from my files and use the new one.

I promise I didn’t touch it! :) But I’m glad it’s back to normal and you have a link that’s working for you.
