Problem with MX in Custom DNS record
-
Hi,
I’m trying to set up email for my blog. I’ve bought a domain first, then had it mapped by WordPress.com with no problem, now I want to use a different provider for email.
I have followed your instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-other-email/ – but I am stuck. The provider gave me the following information:
“You will need to add two MX records as follows:1) Subdomain: BLANK
Mailserver: mail.[domainname.com]
priority: 10—————
2) Subdomain: *
Mailserver: mail.[domainname.com]
Priority: 10
—————3) You will also need to make sure that there is an A record with the
subdomain “mail” pointing to the IP xx.xxx.xx.xx”I had no problem with #1 and #3: I added the following to my custom dns:
A mail xx.xxx.xx.xx
MX 10 mail.therestartproject.org.But I don’t know how to translate #2 into a suitable record, in particular this “Subdomain *”
I can send webmail with my new address, but I can’t receive.
Please help me – the provider said they can’t help me, but you probably can? Thanks,
Ugo—-
Also, I’ve checked with the provider, and they don’t have any CNAME record to go with it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
From the WordPress.com setup perspective, number 1 and 2 are the same. The custom DNS entries you put in should have worked for your email based on the information from your domain provider.
I see that you have now reconfigured a different email setup. Is this working for you now or do you still need our help to get this set up?
Best!
