Problem with new email address

    Hi! I recently changed email addresses. I went into my WordPress settings for my site and changed the email address there. However, after a week I still get the message ‘There is a pending change of the admin email to …’ And the test messages I sent via my site’s contact form are still going to the old email address. Is this par for the course or is there something I can do to speed this along? The old email address was an employer’s, so if it continues much longer it could be a problem with privacy as I won’t have access any more and someone else from the company will be monitoring it.

    Once you change your email, you should have received a confirmation link at the updated address that you need to click in order to finish the email update:

    That’s part of my problem – I don’t receive the link email. I have checked and double checked my junk folder multiple times and it’s not there. I also know that I can receive WP emails okay because I get notifications for this thread, for example (plus when I changed my email here at the forums it went through okay and I got the confirmation link email).

    As the email address is new, there isn’t much there yet, so I’m pretty sure the link email isn’t hiding somewhere. I’ve checked junk folder, the trash itself, and ‘all mail’.

    Can you please let me know your site’s address because I don’t see any sites on the account you’re contacting us from.

    I suspect that you’re trying to change the email address that’s on your site’s dashboard.

    Yes, you are right. My site’s address is http://www.catherinedunn.co.uk and I went and changed it under ‘Settings’ there.

  • Thank you for the link to the site. It seems to be a self-hosted WordPress site – it’s using the open-source WordPress.org software but is hosted with another company so we won’t be able to help you out here.

    Oh! When I try and logon to the forums there, it will not recognise my email address or username at all. Neither the old email address, nor the new one, nor the username I use to login to my site admin, nor the username I use to login here. >_< And because it recognises neither email address, it won’t send me any password reset either (I’m pretty sure the issue is with the username rather than the password, I didn’t actually forget it.) It is totally weird to me.

  • Ah, that’s frustrating!

    Let me just clarify a few things.

    Since WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two separate entities, you won’t be able to use the same credentials for both forums.

    Now, you should be able to log in to both your site (via catherinedunn.co.uk/wp-admin) and to the WordPress.org forums using the same username and password.

    If the credentials do not work, you’ll reset your password from this link:

    https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword

    Since the change of email address was not confirmed, you’ll use the original email with which you’ve set up the account on WordPress.org.

    The account you have on WordPress.com does not have any sites so, I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you further with that, we do not have access to your WordPress.org account.
