Problem with "next article" link in BookLite Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the BookLite Theme for my private WordPress.com Blog and my problem is about the links which are used to jump to the previous or the next article. These links are automatically generated by the theme (BookLite creates them on the bottom).

Since my last two articles, I have noticed, that the second and third last article only have a link to the previous article, but no longer to the following one. I do not know how to fix it. I checked the article categories already and all articles are assigned correctly to the same category.

    Thanks for help.

I tagged this thread for Staff assistance because Volunteers cannot view private blogs. The detailed theme description link is here https://wordpress.com/themes/book-lite and the live demo site link is here http://booklitedemo.wordpress.com/

    Have you enabled infinite scroll?

    Hello timethief,

thanks for your quick response, I really appreciate your help.

It works in the past without any problems and both links (previous and next article) appear correctly. I have changed nothing (no theme change and no settings changed).

According to the linked overview, the BookLite Theme supports “infinite scroll”. Nevertheless, with this theme active, there is no possibility to check or uncheck this option in the settings. There is just one comment: “We’ve changed this option to a click-to-scroll version for you since you have footer widgets in Appearance → Widgets, or your theme uses click-to-scroll as the default behavior.”

The thread is subscribed and I will get an email in case of new comments.

    Thanks again.

That quote means that because you use footer widgets infinite scroll has been automatically disabled on your theme. http://en.support.wordpress.com/infinite-scroll/#disabling-infinite-scroll

After some testing, I found out, that it is connected with the “time stamp” where the article was published for the first time. If I change this stamp manually to a slightly different number (just one minute later, then the original date) it is fixed and the link to the next article apears.

Well, isn’t that interesting? I’m surprised by that.

I thought it could be related to the publishing date, because if the link does not appear, it is probably because of the program “thinks” there is no other article later then this, which then leads to the assumption of a possible corrupted publishing date. By setting a new date, it simply overwrites the corrupted version.

Now I can go to sleep without brainstorming (it is 1 o’clock in the morning in Germany already) .

Thanks for your time timethief :)

    Hi Johannes,

If there are any posts that are still missing those links to the next article, can you send me a link to them? I’d like to investigate this if the problem is still appearing on your blog.
