Problem with plugins
-
My website is http://sonyahamlin.wordpress.com. I would like to optimize my site for search engines, but I can’t find the option to add an SEO plugin. Does anyone know where the option is to add plugins?
Thanks!

That’s not possible nor is it even required as our WordPress.com blogs have good SEO. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs like the one linked to your username and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

Thanks for your reply, timethief. So are you telling me there’s no way to change my site’s meta descriptions? For instance, my home page returns in google as the following:
“Reading Between the Lines | by Sonya Hamlin
sonyahamlin.wordpress.com/
6 days ago – by Sonya Hamlin …. In another blog I’m going to give you some great tips on what makes people listen today and some great techniques for …”I would like to change the descriptions for the homepage and all of my posts, as the self-generated ones are not exactly what I’d hoped for.

No matter how carefully your meta description is crafted the search engines are only going to use it about 40% of the time. I’ve seen meta descriptions that were tweaked and mothered over for weeks by seriously good copywriters that were never picked up by the search engines.

Any WP.com blog has more SEO than any WP.org blog using that plugin. I speak from experience.

thesacredpath: I’d take the 40% chance to improve upon the self-generated meta description that’s currently appearing on search engines.
I’m sorry for my confusion. I have a couple of other wordpress-hosted blogs that must be operating under the other format (.org?), which allows me to edit my posts’ meta descriptions to great effect. Is there some way for me to switch over to that hosting platform?

You can hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install and then import the content from your WordPress.com blog into it. See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
