Problem with RSS feed & Wrong Image Displayed

  • Unknown's avatar

One of the web sites that picks up my feed displays a big white empty image box that is from a Stats Image –

The Plugin they use is FeedWordPress – they will probably change Plugin’s in the next month or so.

The image that displays for my site is a 1×1 pixel for the stats. Sort of an ugly big empty white box. It would seem that the issue is some way that the feed is formatted. Yes the feed does validate, but why is a Stats Gif being sent and not a real picture. Other feeds from Blogger and some WordPress.ORG installs have their lead image display in the Guest Dock just fine.

Is there a way to fix this?

My feed is set to summery.

I have put two screen shots in my media library

Blog Feed – from Feedvalidator.org – image in line 43

Three Sheets Guest Dock – shows big empty box next to my story on – NOAA’s paper nautical charts get a needed update – literally

    Feed issue with: http://captnmike.com/

Page with image display issue: http://threesheetsnw.com/guestdock/

    URL of Image displayed:

    Thanks

The issue has been reported to our developers. I’ll keep you updated!

    Thanks.

Thanks for passing the problem on – it has been messed up for some time (well over a year) – is annoying but thought it was the site that was taking my feed until I started looking at things closer –

The issue is not just my site – it is probably all 65,000,000 blogs are messed up – I saw another WordPress.COM blog on the same Guest Dock page that had the same bad image displayed – but since we all have common code should be fix once and everyone is fixed

    thanks

I’ve been doing a little digging, and it looks like the issue here is a little different from the one we previously reported to our developers.

From what I understand, the FeedWordPress plugin used on that site is pulling the first image it finds in a particular post (from the blog’s feed, of course) and uses that as the thumbnail image. Does that sound right to you?

The issue is that there aren’t any images in the post excerpt in your feed, so the first image it finds is the stats pixel image. For whatever reason (presumably because of how the plugin operates) it isn’t pulling the media:content image from your feed, which would give them your Gravatar image instead.

If any of that sounds off to you, please let me know. But from what I’m seeing, it looks like any fix for this will have to come from the plugin side, in how it selects the image from your feed.

yes pulls the first image and not the “media” one

I did look at other “WordPress” feeds onto the same page – neither .ORG or .COM will display an image. the .ORG feeds don’t seem to have any image in the feed – their feeds also validate cleanly – the .COM feeds validate but with issues – but the flag was not for image related.

If the developers say it is in the Plugin, I don’t know enough about the different plugin’s or the feed to argue – they get the big bucks & glory for knowing those answers :)

I was just getting tired of seeing the big white box when everyone else has a nice picture on that page

Three Sheets is changing their Plugin – to Autoblog. it is a premium plugin from WPMU Dev. – so maybe that will give me a picture :) – – figured a picture might get a few more page views

    thanks for checking
