Problem with setting on the Editor Page

  • Unknown's avatar

There has been a problem with the settings on the Editor page (New Post) for a few days. You can adjust the settings (e.g. the toolbar), but they will be gone again with the next New Post.
Also, the browser keeps showing the help tours for the new editor even though I keep clicking it away.
I’ve tried different browsers and the Windows 10 app.

  • Hi there,

We’ve had some other reports of this happening, and we suspect it’s due to a recent change in the WordPress software related to how the editor preferences is being stored, though we haven’t been able to determine the exact cause yet.

Just to confirm, you’re saying this is happening in both the browser and the desktop app for you?

Do you have access to another computer, either Windows or Apple, to check if it happens there as well?

I have done it with a complete identical Windows 10 Computer.
Same Version of Windows, same Version of Chrome, all addons switched off.
It seems like that the settings could saved there.

If I go back on my Computer, there is the same bug.

  • Thanks @torstenf. Is there any chance you can try a separate browser like Firefox to see if the issue persists there?

Done it with Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Same on every Browser.

  • Thank you. We’re working on duplicating it here. Just to confirm we’re looking for the right thing, is this what you see?

    – Start a New Post
    – Dismiss the welcome tour
    – Use the three-dots option in the upper right
    – Change a setting, like Top Toolbar
    – Save your post
    – Next time you’re back the Toolbar is moved again
    – The welcome tour reappears

Yes, this is right. Thanks for that!

  • Sorry, it looks like we missed your last reply here.

    Thanks for confirming that.

I’m afraid at this point we don’t have any solution for this issue, but we have reported it to our developers, and hopefully they’ll be able to find the cause.

Thank you. I hope there will be a solution for this, cause it is really very annoying if the settings are not saved.

  • Understandably so! We’ve got a bug report filed, so we’ll let you know what we find. Curiously:

I have done it with a complete identical Windows 10 Computer.

Is there any chance both computers have any sort of security program or setting that would block cookies?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, both computers only with the security programm from Windows. Don‘t remember how they call it right now.

And it‘s the same on the windows 10 app from Microsoft Store. Firefox was new, clean install.

I really tried everything, but no chance.

  • Thanks for that feedback. As @supernovia mentions above, our engineers are having a look. We won’t have an ETA on when this would be fixed as they are still investigating but we’re happy to update you here as soon as we know more.

    Thanks for your patience!
