Problem with Trying to Disable Comments
-
Under Settings, Discussion, Default article settings, I have removed the check next to “Allow people to post comments on new articles.”
But I see that this does not remove the “Leave a Comment” hyperlink on posts.
Does that mean that comments have not actually been disabled?
Or, does the reader find out by clicking on the hyperlink that comments have been disabled?
In other words, what changes when you disable comments?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Settings > Discussion
Default article settings
___ Allow people to post comments on new articles
(These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)
Don’t forget to scroll down and click “Save Changes”Also note this on the same page:
Other comment settings
Automatically close comments on articles older than ___ days
Don’t forget to scroll down and click “Save Changes”You can disable comments on individual posts and pages and you can check to see if you were successful by simply logging out and then visiting your own blog. if you discover that the settings you have made have not “taken” you can report the same to Staff here http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Hope this helps. :)

I just visited your blog and was able to leave a comment on your About page and on your latest post. You need to contact Staff.

When you remove the check next to “Allow people to post comments on NEW articles”, you disable commenting on NEW articles: on posts and pages created AFTER you make this change. For already published posts and pages, you have to use one of the other options timethief suggested.

But that’s not what you’re saying, is it?
Hmmmm.
I did create the post “I Think We Need to Ban Political Contributions” after I removed the check… (http://howcanwechange.wordpress.com/2010/05/29/i-think-we-need-to-ban-political-contributions/)

I just deleted my “About Me” page and two posts created before I unchecked the option — and re-posted them.
Now the “About Me” page shows no option to comment, which I like.
But the two posts show “Leave a Comment,” and when you click on it, you don’t get a message, it just returns you to the post. That’s not good.

I believe the only way that “Leave a Comment” may be removed is by purchasing a CSS upgrade and that removing it may mean removing it throughout the entire blog. However, what I know about CSS editing would be lonely on the head of a pin, so let’s hope that devblog or TSP or another member or Staff who have some expertise chime in. -
