Problem with widgets and sidebar on Mystique theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everybody,

    I just changed my blog theme (from INove to Mystique)… but now I have a problem: I drag my widgets to the default sidebar (on the right of the page) but only four of them appear correctly and the rest of them appear on the bottom of the page (as if i drag them in to the footer widget area)… this is frustrating… i want all of them to the primary widget are…
    What can I do?
    Thanks!

    Hello there,
    I’d like to help you but you did not provide an active link to the blog in question starting with http:// Will you please do that now?

    When sidebars fall below posts this is a result of invalid XHTML in posts or text widgets, either due to copying and pasting or it can also be a result of importing text containing invalid HTML.

    Typically this is caused by an open HTML tag in one of your posts or in a text widget. You must locate it and close it.

    Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

    Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

    If it’s not, then look for an open HTML tag and close it. Check your blog again and see if it is back to normal. If it’s still “messed up” then open the next post and do the same thing post by post until it goes back to normal.

    If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    I forgot to leave and link to the blog, here it is: http://prosanthropos.wordpress.com/
    Thanks!

    After you post the link to your blog we can examine it and see what’s going on. I just placed 6 widgets in the sidebar of my test blog, which has the Mystique theme, and had not problem at all. They are all displaying in “The primary widget area.”.

    To be honest I did not use buttons 5 or 6 when I copied and pasted … so they could be a lot of invalid XHTML … but the perspective to take each post to diagnosis I do not find it attractive at all… :-) … if Mystique isn’t working for me I’l just go back to my old theme or find another one…
    anyway thanks for help… I really appreciate it!

    Copying and pasting from “elsewhere” isn’t necessarily harmful: depends on where you copy from, and it’s never a problem when you paste directly into the HTML editor.

    After you select the option timethief suggested, you can correct many posts at once: you go to Posts > All Posts, select all the posts on the page, select Edit from the Bulk Actions menu, click Apply, change Status to Draft, Update, change Status to Published again, Update again.

    But your sidebar shows up fine in all three browsers I’m using. What browser and version are you using?

    Aha! The blog is now displaying fine for me too in Firefox 5.0.1 so I assume the change to the Writing page “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” worked well in this case. :)

    It was fine for me from the start, so what I assume is that kvlr is using Explorer!

    Eureka!
    I found the problem… one of the widgets on top of the of the side bare was broken… and those below it were falling below posts… prloblem fixed!

    @panaghiotisadam
    interesting thing though your mentioning about the browsers… I am using the last version of mozilla fierfox… but now every thing is back to normal…even in my firefox…
    Thank you very much for your help!
    I wish you all the best!

    You’re welcome.

    (One other thing I forgot to mention: the auto-correct option works for posts and pages only, not for text widgets: those you have to examine and correct yourself.)

    @kvlr
