Problem with WP Key and WP.com Stats Plugin
-
I installed the wordpress.com stats plugin and when I go to my dashboard it tells me that there is a problem with the plugin when i activate it (it needs the wordpress key). so i go to the page to input my key, press save, and it just refreshes the page every time and keeps asking for the key. this is the same key i’m using on my akismet spam which seems to be working. what is going on here? has anyone had this problem? i’d really like to start collecting stats on my blog…

You need to email support at support at wordpress dot com. We can’t help you here in the forums.

well, i tried to post this to the support team and they said they only give support for blogs that are hosted on wordpress.com, which mine isnt, and if its not then go to the forums…

I’m sorry to see that this has come full circle. I’m sure you’re feeling frustrated, that is, unless you’re a saint. I cannot help you and all I can suggest is that you might find something in the forum searchbox on this.

Sadly Automattic have not seen fit to inform anyone of the correct avenue of support for the the stats plugin, if indeed there is one. As far as I can tell, it’s basically unsupported. You might have better luck on the .org forums, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

does anyone know of any other plugin that works as a stat system? i’d install google analytics, but that would only give me stats for the front page. i’d like something that integrates to all my posts.

You won’t get much joy asking for plugin tips here, since we’re not allowed to install them :)
If I were in the market for a stats plugin, I’d try wp-plugins.net, and wordpress.org/extend/plugins, and Google any candidates to see what other people had to say about them.

sitemeter.com provides really good statistics, including various charts, for free. It counts up to the last 100 visitors on the free version. I’m using it in a Text widget on here for extra information such as country of visitor. Unfortunately, I can’t track in/out clicks because it requires the full Javascript code which wp.com doesn’t allow. However, you can use it on your hosted blog.

thanks guys. i installed the google analyticizer or whatever that puts the analytics code on every page of your blog, which is exactly what i wanted. we’ll see how it tracks.

The original question sounded exactly like what I just asked somewhere else.
How disappointing to see there is no answer to this api key problem.

So you cannot activate the plugin key netglobal? Does it give you any errors? It might just not be connecting to the stats server when you try and activate it. Does the email of your blog you are trying to activate with mirror what you registered at wordpress.com because that can be a problem.
