Problem w/UTC -6 timezone?
-
I’m setting up a blog on WordPress for the first time and having a really hard time selecting the correct timezone for me. (I live in the US CST or CDT time zone, aka GMT/UTC -6).
When selecting time zones on other websites, I would be given the option to select a city in my time zone (I can’t find one that I’m familiar with. Normally it’s one in Texas, Dallas I believe).
I tried a BUNCH in the US and Canada that were all EST/EDT or UTC -5 before I gave up and selected UTC -6 but was dismayed to find that this option did not take DST (daylight savings time) into account and I was forced to use Mexico City’s time zone in order to get the correct time to show up on my blog. Is this a bug? Are there any US Cities in my timezone that I just didn’t recognize (that will auto-adjust for DST)?
Thank you!!

I think you should bring this to Staff attention when they reactivate the support link. The form will be open again at 12PM UTC on Monday 27th June. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Here’s a list of cities that observe Central Time, if that helps.

Thanks for posting that useful link. I typed in Dallas and got the information required http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=70
Standard time zone: UTC/GMT -6 hours
Daylight saving time: +1 hour
Current time zone offset: UTC/GMT -5 hours
Time zone abbreviation: CDT – Central Daylight Time -

If you pick a city in your timezone instead of just the UTC offset, it will take daylight saving time into account (as long as that city observes DST).
